Outrageous. 5/10 double >> 100/110 double
Outrageous. 5/10 double >> 100/110 double
Just because you're a distance fan, doesn't mean the 5k/10k is harder to pull off than the 100/110 double. Name me the last athlete to win both the 100m and 110mHH events? It's a rare feat.
I don't believe it's ever happened at the NCAA level before this year.
agree
5000 and 10000 go hand in hand.
100 flat and 110 hurdles not necessarily, all 110 hurdlers have to be fast in the flat 100, but most are not fast enough to win the flat 100 at the NCAA level.
110/100 has never been done before IN THE HISTORY OF THE NCAA MEET! Learn the sport moron.
When was the last time the NCAA 100 was won in 10.28?
He would have been 6th in 2011, 7th in 2010, 8th in 2009, 5th in 2008, 6th in 2007, 6th in 2006, 4th in 2005, 8th in 2004, 2nd in 2003, 2nd in 2002 (they ran into -2.7).
So the slowest winning time in over a decade. After the meet Riley admitted it would be his last 100 because he is way too slow to be a 100 guy.
It was a slow time because they were running into a fairly strong headwind. They would have been right around 10 flat without the headwind. One of the guys he edged out in the final ran a 9.96 in the semis.
And the reason Riley is not going to run the 100 again is because he is Jamaican. They have several of the top sprinters IN THE WORLD. If he were from just about any other country, he'd probably have a good chance of making the Olympics in the 100 and wouldn't be giving it up.
Even being a distance guy, give credit where credit is due. While Cam Levins pulling off the 5k/10k double is very, very impressive, especially in the way he did it, Riley is the FIRST EVER to win both the 100 and the 110 hurdles. With all the sprint studs in NCAA history, that is amazing. While the final was slow, also take into account that this was the fastest prelims EVER in history, making this the quickest NCAA 100 meter Final ever. I think it is a fair award for an amazing athlete.

Nonsense.
A 100/110h double is much rarer than a 5k/10k double.
Much.
This is undoubtedly yet another letsrun post prompted by underlying racism.
Let the whining begin
