Ryun, 3:59.0

I didn't look it up, so correct me if I'm wrong, but Ryun went 3:59.0 as a junior. Pretty sure that'd have to be it:)
But if you're going where I think you're going, Webb's 3:59.9 1600 DMR split as a junior at Penn is the one other mark of note. Converts to very equal to Montoya's time today, but it was run much more evenly.
Those three, with Ryun leading, are easily the top mile performances of the junior class.
And has there ever been a deeper HS mile? 9 guys under 4:05, 13 under 4:10 in one race?
Montoya's kick looked smooth. Reminded me of Centrowitz Jr.
Ryun 3:59.0 as a junior.
so was the kid today #2 all time?
Ryun's 3:59.0 was on June 5, 1964, over 48 years ago. He had just turned 17 that April. It was the first time a high school kid ever broke four minutes.
I think yes. Webb's split wouldn't count.
Ryun also ran a 3:39 1500 that year.

No, Rob Finnerty was faster as well (4:01.09 in '07)
It may have been the #3 all-time mark for a junior, though... can't think of anyone else, and I'm not sure where to look (if there was a faster junior, it would have had to have been before the Dyestat era, so unless there was someone in the 60's/70's/80's...)
Ryun's fastest mile as a junior was 4:06.4 in a high school meet.
Okay, those were with pro competition, right? Does that makes Montoya's time the fastest Junior in a HS only meet?

Actually, I take that back: looks like that was a mistake on Dyestat's part, because he ran that time in '08 instead of '07. So Montoya probably is the #2 junior all-time.

Irrelevant, as he ran 3:59.0 at Compton that same year.
Relevant, as Ryan finished 8th at the meet in Compton.

We aren't talking NFHS records, this is "out of season" anyways.
Ryun ran 3:59.0 as a junior. That's the junior record.
We?
Montoya's time is HS only competition and he won. There is a difference. That is why different records are kept.

Irrelevant, as "Ryan" finishing 8th has no bearing on what the record is.
Learn something.
Just to be clear, what do you think the High School Mile Record is?

the HS-only or not distinction means a lot less when you have HS-only races with high schoolers rabbiting, IMO
