Not at all actually. That's not range. That's what happens when you can run 4:03 in HS.
Dickson is incredible, but I don't really see that as "range". Most high school 1:49 guys aren't 4:03 milers, but I think you'd need to bring in the 3200m, or have a faster 400m time to really call that incredible range. Either way, I'd definitely call it incredible talent obviously combined with a lot of hard work.
Engles 49, 1:49,4:03, 8:55

Dixon has run 9:01, pretty similar to Engels range of marks.
What an amazing bunch of HS performances...

Dickson has a style best described as "lumbering". he works his upper body a lot and his head works around a bit. Doesn't look efficient but he sure looks strong.

No he hasn't. 9:04, though it was an hour after a leg of the 4x4 (but he probably didn't exactly go all out in the 4x4 prelims...)
Dickson has some very good times, but he is a 800/miler. His 400 and 3k+ marks really aren't on the same level at all.

Dude - a 49 400 for a HS miler is pretty f*cking awesome. Get informed before you make dumb*ss posts.
sure, if we were talking about a 4:20ish guy, I'd agree ;)
dickson ran most of that race in the outside of lane one or in lane two. im sure a lot of these dudes arent used to not being in the lead but he definitely ran a lot farther than he had to. not to take anything away from his fantastic season. just saying he might have had a better stretch run had he been able to tuck in and relax during the middle 800 meters or so.

My bad, I thought he'd run 9:01 at state. Must have mixed his time up with one of the many other WA state performers.

4:20ish guys don't run 49 400s.
Jantzen Oshier from Trabuco Hills had range.. 48.x in the 4x4, 1:51 for the 800, 4:00 for 1600, and 9:10 for 3200. I don't think he ever made a serious attempt at 3200 since he almost always double/tripled/even quadrupled when he ran it. He ran all 4 of those events at South Coast League finals last year, which is probably the most competitive league/district in the entire country in terms of track. He won all but the 4x4, and the guy who barely beat him was a 47.X 400 runner. He's truly a talent, I hope he gets his sh*t together.

Fool. Dickson's run 49, 1:49, 4:03(y), 9:04. That's pretty phenomenal range for a HS kid.

The kid that beat him (Patrick Gibson, junior from Squalicum) ran 9:01 (he was at 9:04 for 2nd)

Yes they do. I have known a few of them.
