Phenom is too strong, but she ran 20:35 as a 7th grader and was a Top 5 finisher at state XC finals in small division, in a small state.
Never got faster in middle school.
Moved for high school and by time she was a senior had a PR that year of 23:05.
She's healthy, and after thinking about giving up sport, is going to run in college.
Is she a lost cause?
My previous similar experience was an 8th grader who ran 18:30s and was up to mid-21s as a senior. We never got her below 20:30 in college.
New kid has very little speed: 800 PR is high 2:40s. No 400 experience.
Has had little mileage for four years. ABout 20-25 mpw from what she's told me. Practice last fall was 3-4 times a week of running home 5K course. She said she'd run it twice -- a second time on her own after practice (I see that as a positive).
How have you approached a kid who's slowed by 2 1/2 minutes over 6 years? Don't know her body type as a youngster so I don't know if there's been weight gain, etc.
