That's pretty much it for him then. In theory the American college system looks good for athletes but in practice burns them out and history bears this out.

Yes, it certainly does "burn them out." Look at how "little" the following athletes accomplished after the American college system "destroyed" their careers: Marty Liquori, Sidney Maree, Vicky Huber, Sonia O'Sullivan, Don Paige, Adrian Blincoe, Bobby Curtis, Marcus O'Sullivan, Gerry O'Reilly, Carrie Tollefson, Jen Rhines. This is a partial list from only one university.
Sorry for the sarcastic response, but it's not the system. Good coaching and the right philosophy allow athletes to succeed after college

nova also got josh lampron from mansfield, ma. just ran 3:45, could go sub 4 this year. kids a stud.
There are exceptions to the rule but most coaches will have their star athlete double, triple, or quadruple to score points so they keep their jobs. Not exactly a development system

Again, it's the coaches who choose to run their kids down that are at fault. With the right philosophy, they can succeed after college.
More "exceptions to the rule" from just one university:
Gina Procaccio, Charlie and Chip Jenkins, Eammon Coghlin, Larry James, Dick Buerkele, Noel Carroll, Ron Delaney, John Marshall.

And there lies the problem.

Don't apologise, after all you could be right.
I would argue that, based on the amount of cherry picking recruiting that has gone on over the years (both foreign and local), that the number and quality of college system middle and long distance athletes should be up there with the East Africans.
Villanova really only goes for points championships in cross country. Sheila Reid didn't even run at the Big East outdoor meet this season.

Typical Villanova arrogance...living in the past
Okay.. Bobby Curtis and Adrian Blincoe. The collegiate system obviously didn't hurt them.

I'd mentioned Rhines, Blincoe, and Curtis in an earlier post which was probably too long for you to read.
I think it's probably safe to add Sheila Reid to the list of runners who will do well after college.
I know this is not post-collegiate, but McEntee and Denault, two frosh, had a pretty good meet this week, but I guess that's all in the past now.
what about markus's son chris o'sullivan?! kids got some wheels and is a looker to boot!
It remains to be seen how good he is.
How massive are we talking? 13 inches?

for real? the girls were 3rd this year and disappointed with that. nova is a top notch program past, present, and future
Judging from Williamsz's twitter account, it seems like he's certainly off to Villanova, him and Lampron together, that's pretty big.
Talking about Villanova recruits. What is up with Chris Fitzimons? I was really looking forward to his progress ever since he split that 1:47 in HS.
FitzSimons has been hurt a lot since he got to Villanova, he ran 1:48 outdoors this season, which was only his freshman season in outdoor eligibility.
Jordie Williamsz to Villanova is now confirmed -- he's enrolled for fall semester, and he's confirmed today on Twitter.
