So every mile he runs in training is as fast or faster than mp?
I remember a few years back when he ran a lousy 10,000 on the track and he was good to go after that. I'm too lazy to look it up but I think it was in the 29's on the track which would be simlilar to the 30 on the road on that course in NY.
If he is in a strength phase of his training which he should be I wouldn't think he would be running all that fast right now in road 10k.
I'm doubting that he hasn't gone slower than MP in training. I don't even think that would be possible.
3/1 - World's Best 10K - Shalane Flanagan - 32:20 (PR - 30:22)
3/18 - NYC Half Marathon - Kara Goucher - 69:12 (PR - 68:05 unaided, 66:57 aided)
3/18 - NCY Half Marathon - Desiree Davila - 70:44 (Marathon PR - 2:25:55 unaided, 2:22:38 aided)
What were you saying about women being smarter and not being lured by the NYRRC? (Yes, I know Shalane's race was not sponsored by the NYRRC, that was thrown in there to show how soon she raced after the trials and put up a performance that's way below her best)

Have the names for the mini 10k already been announced? I'd bet we see Kara, Desi or Shalane. At least one of them.
so what??? that is his marathon pace...he is a 2'04 marathon, and not doing any 10km training. letsrun has a bunch of kids and loosers like you
He still should be able to tempo a 29 Flat with his credentials...
With that being said I am certain he will still be ready for the Olympic Games...
Some of you idiots just don't get it. He is smart to run tempo pace, as full out 10k pace puts a dint in your training for up to 2 weeks. He is smarter than that and doesn't need a hard 10k right now.
Ryan Deek gets more W's then Hall
In a post-race interview no less than a minute after finishing the run he stated, completely relaxed, that we was just having fun with the race and did not race it all out.
End of thread.
Yeah I think Hall needs to get back to track work after London and really start focusing on the shorter distances. I mean like 1500 style short. Part of his early marathon success I think was 2 fold. One his stride was a lot more efficient than it is now from all the speed work. Second is that marathon pace probably seemed like a joke to how fast he was running before.
I think he's got "marathon legs" and needs to snap out of it quick.
Marathon training converts very well to 10k races. On a track, a 2:06 guy should be just under 27. On the roads, not too much slower. 30 minutes is weak.

Well CLEARLY if he had done everything according to plan and ran as fast as he wanted, he wouldn't have said "Rough day today. Thankful to have 3 months till the Games" on twitter. He made it explicit this was NOT the performance he wanted today
A marathoner at his level should be able to run a 30 min 10K in a training run. However, we all seen Hall underperform at shorter distances...but this is really not good.
The immaturity here is amazing. I would love to meet some of the idiots on these threads...I just want to see are you really this stupid and ignorant in person or does the internet just bring it out in you?
It is laughable people on this board questioning someone who ran a 2:04 marathon and competes at this level. Please, Letsrunners - enlighten Hall with your infinite knowledge since you have achieved the level that he has. After all, his marathon performances are just pure luck right? He doesn't know how to train or anything...sub 2:10 marathoner...what does he know.
The insecurity and jealousy on this thread is amazing.
I was one of the people that seriously questioned Hall after one of his pre-2011 Boston races. I think that the guy just treats any non-Marathon race as a Tempo +/- run. Looking at his splits, it looks like he tried to give it an honest effort for the beginning of the race and then coasted in.

So only people who can run as fast as Ryan Hall can have an opinion on his approach to training and races? Only people who have been the president can have an opinion on whether the president is doing the right things? People who have achieved a high level cannot be evaluated or second guessed? You sir, have an immature perspective.
30 plus for a runner of Hall's caliber anytime of the year on any training cycle is embarrassing. I have friends running faster than that early season with almost no speed work. Hell maybe I will in a few years this is disgraceful he will FLOP in London.

Hansons athletes are generally smarter than most and not as likely to chase the easy payday. Not likely to see Desi in this race unless Hansons have seriously changed their ways.
Shalane is managed by her husband, so I would not be shocked at all to see her in this race.
Kara will follow Shalane.
Hall will run 2:07 + or - 1 minute at London and finish in the top 10. Do we expect more or less? We can critique his May 10k, but his focus is the Olympic Marathon and he will run up to expectations.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
