WTF?
WTF?
Great Job Ryan you ran slower than your London pace for a quarter of the distance!
Well, he's following the God plan, so who are we to question it.
No need to bust balls. He is probably training through and raced on flat legs. Good for him for getting out there.
All year people yell that he needs to run more underdistance races, then when he does they rip him apart.
and they're right to rip him cuz he ran so sh*tty. 30min for a "2:04" guy is pathetic. if you're gonna run the race (props to him for doing it), make it count!!!

This is all about the NYRR and nothing to do with the athlete. The NYRR throw a ton of money at these athletes and the agents to have Olympians in town on Olympic Years. The dollars are too good to turn down and so you are stuck with performances like this.
NYRR recognize the internal greed of athletes and realize that most of them will justify their behavior saying ignorant things like "you have to pay the bills".
Hall, Abdi and Meb are all willing to sell their Olympic Dreams for a payday and justify it by saying that "it won't hurt to spend a week in NY 3 months before the games"
The NYRR will probably have a tougher time getting Shalane, Desi, and Kara because those 3 all have an outside chance to do something at the Olympics and are handled a little smarter than the men.
FOCUS ON THE OLYMPICS.

he's a 2 6 guy, any1 with 1/2 a brain knows that
This post is ridiculous. First of all, how is it greedy to take advantage of a high paying race where you run a 10k? I would call it smart thinking, you only can race at a high level for so long. Second, do you really think that running a 10k will screw you over for a marathon in 3 months? Hall's 30 minute 10k makes it obvious that he is using this as a training race. Yes, it is important to focus on the Olympics but there is no reason to think that running this 10k just extremely negatively affected their chances at the Olympics.

Yeah, I'm sure they're ruined for London because of a low-key 10k in May.
You would like to see him put more into it if he's going to show up. The Olympics should be his main focus, but a better effort at a 10k in May shouldn't be a problem.
Can someone tell me off hand what Halls 10k PR is and when the last time he ran a good one was?
How many years has it been since Hall has had a good shorter distance race (and I wouldn't count a 62 min half as a good race for a 59 min half marathoner)? The thing that has me scratching my head with this kind of race is what it shows about his basic fitness, or more accurately his lack of basic fitness. He really should be able to run around 29-29:30 at the minimum for a road 10k no matter where he is in his training as long as he isn't within the first 1-3 weeks after a break. He's been able to show up and perform reasonably well for marathons, but his last 2 haven't been great and I really wonder if he's going to start laying eggs in marathons soon like he's been consistently doing with these shorter races in the last few years. I guess until he does we have to assume he'll be alright in London, but the fact that he might not be training at the same level as he was under Mahon and keeps running like complete garbage for someone of his caliber in shorter races makes it hard to be optimistic about him even being close to the top 5, maybe even top 10, in London.
My question about this concerns his comment that he hasn't been doing any under distance training. He always says that he will but he does not have the mindset to do so. If he ever wants to truly contend at the world level, he will have to start hammering some workouts at 3k-10k pace so that he can handle low 14:00 5ks enroute. He had that training still in his legs when he ran 59:43 and 2:06:17 and easily ran 2:09 on a tough course in Central Park. Right now he has the ability in fair conditions to hold 2:08/9 pace but if he wants greatness he has got to do the speed.
Has Ryan Hall trained for any race other than the marathon in the last 4 years? I can't think of one.
Hall would likely have been beaten easily by HS runner Edward Cheserek!

No. He runs shorter stuff for fun and to get paid, as I'm sure the NYRR knew when they invited him. He never trains or tapers for anything but a marathon.
There's a thread like this after almost every half marathon he runs, normally at a pace slower than his marathon pace. No one should be surprised or feel the need to use 5 exclamation points!!!!! Mentally, he just doesn't seem to care about anything but the marathon.

Potential new sponsor?

Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
