It sounds like he may be training under Brad Hudson. See here: http://www.flotrack.org/video/621861-Brad-Hudson-and-his-new-Hudson-Training-Systems
Hudson would be a good choice for German. Imagine German training at altitude and putting in a massive aerobic base without worrying about college races.
Hudson is absolutely correct in that German is one aerobic system away from the World level.
I'm cautiously encouraged. Smith recently made it sound like German was so injured he hasn't been running at all the past couple months. If that's the case, then it's hard to expect him to run any qualifying times anytime soon. With no miles in the bank he certainly won't be able to hang in the 5000, which I firmly believe is his event. But with a bunch of guys running sub-13:20, he's not ready for that, despite having run 13:25 his first year.
Smith said the same thing before this cross season. I don't think GF has had a single uninterrupted season since his freshman year of track.

Neither. But 3:46 is his season best for 2012 at this moment, and it's slower than his other season bests.
No you truly are a world class f'tard. You know how many people open a season off their PB or last season SB? To even make such a retarded statement is insane.

i have a love/hate relationship with this godforsaken website, but these are the posts that keep me coming back...
I don't see him running post-collegiately.
Not bad for a comeback race
He's still young
there aren't a lot of other jobs for sociology majors right now. he might not have options since he picked such a cake major in school.

If Alan Webb ran such a time the world would be ending.

I thought he was majoring in police taser science.

The world will not end until 12/21./12. Plenty of time left to set a PR before doomsday.

Dang, this is a bad year to be injured.
Fernandez has loads of potential, especially considering his age. If he found the right coach who could keep him healthy and and build a stronger aerobic base, Fernandez would be a boss.

I have been thinking this same thing for two years. Man I hope I am wrong. Would really like to see German put it all together again. GERMAN MUST RETURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what happened to Jeff Nelson, under similar circumstances. I still recall Smith standing behind German tossing things at him during interviews. The only difference is that German is still hanging on at this point.
...on a related note, Paulo Pinheiro from Tulsa ran a PB of 14:08 over 5,000m last weekend. He ended the indoor season with a 4:02 mile, so I think that there is more in him over 5,000m this outdoor season.
Just thought that current NCAA runners that run faster (faster than GF) should also get coverage on LetsRun.
