He is the first sub 30 on the track. There are slew of US masters that have broken 30 on legit certified road courses. And it can be stongly argued the track is faster than the roads.

i acknowledge all this. But i honestly don't think his performance is worth 27:22. Anyone knows details about his
training?
Ok buddy it's no big deal, you're right bro.
Everyone listen up to the 20 something who most likely can't break 31 talk about how unimpressive a sub 29 40 year old runner is.
Slowing down after 40? Really?
Ekaterina Podkopaeva 1997 1500m WORLD CHAMPION AGE 44 4:05
http://iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/letter=p/country=rus/athcode=61520/index.htmlShe had consistent performances throughout the years with no rock bottoming after 35 or 40 that we sometimes see.
She coaches now and still has the figure of a teenager and looks good!

Yeah really. Sub 29 after 40 is worth a little respect. I know a few guys who were still in the 29s at that age but sub 29 is not nearly as common. My coach was in the 29s til he was nearly 42. In the whole scheme of things, there are guys in their 20s who struggle to run a 28 or 29. Let them try it 20 yrs later:)
anyone have them? wrote:

...and this puts castille's accomplishment in even greater perspective--these are some incredible masters and open runners, yet kevin is the first under 29!
my masters ego should be above this, but there is some measure of satisfaction in seeing "the past" take down "the future" and the likes of great young athletes like parker stinson and chad hall...
Old school Soviet doper. Period. Beating Slaney and Jacobs in her 40's, ha. Doesn't change anything I said above anyway. Any performance by a 40+ that gets an Oly Trials track qualifier is one of the best all-time and will remain so.

So my question is: Is this guy doped or not?
Torun this fast at age of 40 without PEDs, it is hard to believe.

Because near 40 yr olds split that in their marathons
Other than Tergat who was WR holder and Geb who is really well into his 40's now, Castille's time IS noteworthy.
Hate say this, but the only folks downplaying this are the kids on this board. If you are under 30, STFU. In any event, Castille will wipe the floor with you in a 5k or 10k.
When you get into your late 30's, then you can tell us masters how "weak" this performance was.
Agreed, Cush. Not just impressive, it is astounding.
On the flip side we have a bunch of kids posting here who have never run sub 30 claiming it is no big deal and others claiming he must be doped. Jeez. This message board is almost completely full of idiots.
How do I know these posers never run under 30? Probably more like 32? Because statistics prove it and anyone who had actually ever run under 29 would understand just how hard that is for ANYONE, regardless of age. And another thing: just because many Kenyans have done something still does not make it easy, even for them. They work hard on top of having heaps of talent.
Did I mention: this message board is almost completely full of idiots.

I remember a little guy called Eddy that was running some fast 10Ks. I d like to know about his training. I am a master runner and to run under 30 minutes for a 10K at age 40 or over, it is extremely hard. I don't take any PEDs like HGH, EPO or other goodies.
These kids that are saying that a sub 29 minutes is not big deal for a master runner, they should wait and see when they become 40, if they will be around, to see how hard that is.
Is there a test for HGH? My local hero is over 55 and breaking 16 for the 5K coming from nowhere. Well, his jaw keeps getting bigger, just like all these kids in the Footlocker finals last year. I was shocked to see so many young faces being damaged by the use of roids and HGH.

Yeah and Slaney and was nailed in the 90s and Jacobs in the BALCO scandal....
SUB 16 in the 55-59 would likely win him the gold at the World Masters Champs. 16 min in that category is still very doable clean. Sub 16 sadly is highly suspect.
Here are the 3000 results from the indoor worlds:

How about a sub 55 for the ten miles?
I think this message board is filled with people who hate life in general. 28:57 not impressive for a 40 year old? I don't care what the Kenyans do. We are all aware that they are fast. That doesn't make everyone else slow. Why doesn't everyone who is hating on the guy put a rest to it and be happy for a fellow runner doing something good. That is a better time than 99% of runners can ever run in their prime let alone at age 40.
anybody denying how incredible this run is doesn't understand much.
how far was he behind dathan r? seriously? 40 ?!
sorry that h.s. and college kids don't get this. in fact boys, he's just run faster (way) than any of you dream.
comparing him to younger world record holders? huh?
40.
get it.
phenomenal
All I can say is WOW!! Anytime under 31:00 in the US Masters ranks is really exceptional. Sub 29:00 is going to take a few more days for me to come up with superalitives.......Welcome to the Masters Mr Castille
Ynot
Sounds like bpilch. That guy is killing it lately!

ANSWER: Fr you to run that fast YOU WOULD HAVE TO take massive dosages of PEDS. Even then you are unlikely to run faster than 32.xx for 10k.
For someone else to require PEDs to run that fast in not absolutely necessary. For you PEDs are ABSOLUTELY necessary.
Take your PEDs and prove this to yourself. That way you will prove the effect of PEDs once and for all to yourself.
stunning time. that is an incredible achievement. and almost as fast as his pr for a professional at forty. there will still be some steep drops in master's records when top ethiopian and kenyan runners (like tergat did) hang on several years extra, as they have been tending towards. and maybe geb, who looks older than his posted age, already hit forty several years ago. but lagat should be able to put down some impressive records in three years.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
