I think 800m in 2:04, 3rd lap was a 56ish, then he finished in 3:43?
unambitious race by rupp
he did nothing until last 400 & was just caught wanting against guys with probably 47/1'45 speed
his finish was good but not good enough in such a slow race
i'm disappointed he didn't take it out hard as this was his only chance of qualifying
+ve from this ( if any ) are that i do believe he can go 3'34 outdoors if he takes it hard from the gun ( he was close to these guys despite 4th or 5th finish - he wasn't disgraced ), but no more chancing last 400 sprints v 47/1'45 guys please

His tactic in the 1500m should have been flat out from the gun
Correct as usual from the coach. +1
For a runner whose sweet spot is probably around ***15000m***, anything other than putting down the fastest pace possible in a ***1500*** is not "tactical." It is stupid.

Correct. And it is brave of him to take on the milers and
get some speed work done. He will medal at London 2012.
Rupp? Medal? At USAFTF, sure.
I wouldn't bet on him picking up a medal on the circuit, let alone a championship.
Raking in the inflated marathon appearance fees guaranteed to a (white) US runner in the world top 500 (a la Ritz) is Rupp's future.
If a runner like Rupp got under 4 for the mile that would be great. Remember, Frank Shorter was for years Americas best 10K runner, but his mile PR (get this) was 4:15. All Rupp really needs is probably at best 3:58 mile speed. Rupp is not a speedster, but a true distance runner. He is not designed to go faster than 3:40 for the 1500, and it would utterly pointless for him to run that race regularly.

Just wondering if anybody has seen the race, and whether or not Rupp needed to demonstrate any sort of top-end speed or acceleration that he couldn't produce.
Was this another "training run" for him?
Shouldn't you stick to ripping black sprinters?

Rupp finishes 4th in 3:43.39 (PR), fails to advance
And THIS is why we should run the mile. If that race was a mile instead of a 1500, Rupp's time would be just off the world record.

Actually 4:01.
Rodgers' fastest time was 4:18 but he never ran the mile for time in top shape.
Why would a guy who's MAYBE a 3:34 runner outdoors try to lead a championship 1500 against faster runners? He wouldn't have done any better than he did here.
Female coach having affair with male runner. Should I report it?
