Mac Fleet never intended to compete this Winter. He will be running the Outdoor season only. Elijah Greer was nursing a minor injury, so they kept him out to save a season of eligibility. Other Ducks, like Hornsby, Shrader and Goyotu have been running well. So, the answer to your question is that several are "taking the winter off and prepping for outdoors", while at least one (Greer) has been injured, but "injured in droves" is an exaggeration for sure.
Mac is HIGHLY overrated. A legend in his own mind.

I'm sure this is true as I bet you're much better. Right?.... Troll!!!
What about Colby Alexander? Has he raced since arriving at UO? Interested to hear as I followed his results through HS and haven't heard from him since.
Mac Fleet has been injury prone his entire career. He parties too much. Get with it Mac, wake the heck up!!!

I never said I was. Where was my name mentioned? Get a clue much?
Agreed. He never said anything about being better or worse. What does that have to do with Mac?
Mac Fleet is one of the more gifted guys I have seen in person, I hope he gets it right and is healthy.
The partying comment aside, I hope that is not that case, clearly has next level ability.
You're new here (you have to be). Welcome to LR. If you go against someone, you will be called a troll. Have thick skin. For what it's worth I bet the guy who responded......Had to laugh..... may have actually been Mac himself. Honestly, he's not THAT good. He will never make the Olympics or even come remotely close to top 3 in the trials, yet many will lead you to believe the opposite. Ironically, he's probably the troll himself.
With how well Oregon women mid-d are doing (Hasay, Kesselring, Friday, Roesler, etc) you'd think the men would be performing better. As a previous poster said, Shrader, Dunbar, Stinson etc are performing well and coming into their own, but I'd love to see Fleet back and healthy and Greer competing.
Fleet is way overrated. He's good at putting down others, such as he did on Flotrack, yet he's doesn't like to be knocked down when things aren't going right for him. Karma is a B***H, eh Mac?

You must be new yourself if you don't know who trialswatcher is. Mac Fleet ran 4:02.9 for the mile in high school, among the all time best, and he broke Rupp's Oregon indoor school mile record as a FRESHMAN, running 3:57.70. He also ran 1:49.2 800m. That's a big talent and likely future U.S. contender. He redshirted outdoor track last year and xc this year. If he's healthy, you would think that he would be ready for a big outdoor campaign this year.
Mac will not make top 3. Wanna bet?
Mac Fleet split 1:47.xx not one but twice at Penn
One thing I do know how to spot is talent, the rest is up to the ahtlete and breaks due to injury.
Tell me it is a life style issue, well that would be unfortunate but not rare. I will tell you it is less than 30% who actually improve from a high level HS runner to hat much better in College or after, just a fact.
there ARE many that improve from below that to way better also a fact.
Colby Alexander red-shirted his frosh season. He had mono this cc season. Over that time he's run some great workouts though and is slowly building up his physical strength and getting accustomed to the rigors of collegiate training. He was a very low mileage runner in HS so they are taking their time with him. The advantage Colby has being at Oregon is that they can afford to take their time with him with the stable of runners on the roster at UO.
I've heard the same thing about Mac Fleet. That is, he parties too much. Prefontaine may have gotten away with it (but did he?) Mac is no Prefontaine.
Greer is featured on the 2012 Oregon poster with Berry, Pusekdra, and Crouser.

About 5-6 images in.
Yes, Mac is no Prefontaine, but he may believe so. He's plateaued and Pre kept going not to mention he was better from the start. Injuries? Yeah, sure, ok.
Mac will be another "never was" and ride off into the sunset. I've seen it many, many, many, many, times.
