I used to run in these religiously until the 5th version came out. Ever since then the shoes have been way too cushiony and wide for me.
Same here. The Vomero 3 and 4 was a near-perfect daily trainer for me, but I'm lukewarm on the v5; haven't tried the v6. I had to go down half a size and only wear the v5 with thicker socks because of the extra width, and it still felt a bit sloppy at that. The cushioning would be great for an ultra high end walking shoe, but does seem a bit like overkill in a trainer.
However, I ran in a pair of Puma's that I thought felt similar at the store, only to get progressively harder on pavement and in the cold once I took them home, and now when I wear the Vomero 5's they actually feel quite good. Funny how that works.
I usually retire shoes around the 500 mile mark, but I probably have more than 1,000 miles on each pair of Vomero's in my rotation and they're not quite out of gas yet. Of course, the bulk of my mileage in them is on trails, so the outsole holds up much longer.
