... and sponsors love folks with a high "Q".
Rupp is getting as much press not running a marathon as those who are running a marathon, maybe more!
Chicago would be the perfect opportunity for Galen to try his hand at the marathon. He'd be coming off track season fitness, the Olympics would be over, and he'd have plenty of recovery time before the next season... not to mention a six figure appearance fee.
I think if he has the opportunity, he'd be silly to NOT run it.
must be nice to get to sign up for chicago 2 weeks before registration opens.

It is nice when the charity is able to do that. It's even cooler when Carey Pinkowski shows up to give a talk. It is extremely nice and thanks for pointing it out. You should run for a big charity like the one I'm running for. Then you can sign up early.

it has nothing to do with any charity, rupp can run because he adds interest and intrique to an event. if you run under 27 minutes for 10000 you will also be allowed to enter the race before registration opens.

Agree 100%. But when Mary starts throwing lots of $$$ at you it's tough to think about long term development over a quick payday.
I bet Pinkowski could throw a lot of money at him, too. Let's face it--he's the most intriguing American at the distance right now. I can totally see this.
My question is when Mo is going to make his marathon debut.

Mosop said that he is going for the world record in chicago this year.

He should work on that half marathon time. He could easily break Hall's AR if not get a sub 59. He has a faster 10000m than Martin Mathathi and he's run sub 59 so there's no reason Rupp can't.
He should run Bupa Great North instead and go for a fast time. He might as well do 2 or 3 half marathons before going up to the full
Sure he can be under 59 with no problem! Sub 58 if he really tries. Then he can move on to the Marathon and go at least sub 2:03. At that point he can look to work it down to a 1:55. WTF!!
Dude I just said sub 59:43 if not sub 59. For having a 26:48 PB, what's wrong with that prediction?

While signing up for the Chicago Marathon at a local charity tonight, Carey Pinkowski said there is a really good chance that Rupp is doing Chicago this year.
Carey Pinkowski is entered in Chicago this year? This could get interesting...

Nothing. People forget that when he ran 60:30 he ran the first quarter of the race at like 4:54 pace
He also did a summer-sault in that race. I don't care who you are, that takes something out of you.

What would be the point of that? If he wants to run the marathon, why not get right to it, why waste time on the half when it's a less important event?
There's no reason he should move up. He's a sub 26:50 runner. He is a threat to medal in the 10000m and to bring that time into the high 26:30's. And while doing the half he can still train for the 10000m and win some road races and get the AR. Hell he could probably improve upon Ritz's Bronze at the half marathon championships this year. He should do that instead of Chicago
I wouldn't be surprised if it's all a ploy.
Colin Sahlman runs 1:45 and Nico Young runs 1:47 in the 800m tonight at the Desert Heat Classic
