YiOu Wang, what a great story.
YiOu Wang, what a great story.
Wow, that is impressive! Here are some other resent results.

She's run 16:59 for 5K and 34:38 10K this past spring. That's moving for a "hobby jogger".
Thanks for sharing.
16:59 for a guy is not that fast. 16:59 for a girl is ok, but is DEFINITELY not that amazing.Physiologically, its equivalent to a college guy runner. She only qualified for the olympic trials due to the soft female standards.

Your insecurity is awsome.

Wow she's as fast as a college guy runner.
16:59 is no hobby jogger IMHO
Nice progression. Of course the term "hobbyjogger" is wrong here, she started as one but who hasn't? We all have.
Having a M PR of just a few seconds faster than her and looking at her other PR's I realized how much better her M performance is than any of her other distances. 5K just under 17, 10k just under 35.
There was a lot of tailwind at grandma this year, wasn't there?
16:59 equates to about a 2:45. I didn't know she had a 2:38 under her belt.To the other poster, no, I'm not insecure. To the last poster, everybody has different definitions of "impressive." Her times are not impressive to me. Other times are.http://www.scrunners.org/calculator.php?hrs=0&min=16&sec=59&distance=5&units=1.609&Submit=Calculate

Right. I have seen many cases where someone could run a 16:59 but not a 2:45. But you hardly ever see the reverse cases. 2:38 is clearly an outlier for her, she won't be able to repeat that at the trials.
I know, according to Canova, wind doesn't provide any benefits.
She PR'd on Thanksgiving Day running 16:51 5K.
-She has a 34:38 10K (5/30/11)which gives between a 2:39-2:42 marathon time.
-She also ran a 1:16:58 half marathon (8/27/11) that converts to a 2:40-2:43 marathon
.
aren't we all hobby joggers if we don't make a living doing it?
Wang looks like a speedy runner.

5k has next to no predicative validity for the marathon.

Wang's 34:38 10K and 1:16:58 half marathon covert to a 5K faster than 16:51. It sounds like she probably focuses her training towards the longer races.

Ho hum, 2:15:43 for a man must not be impressive to you either (which is what her marathon equates to for a man). Tough crowd to please. :-/

...and a heal striker.
In the interview she refers to herself as having been a "hobby jogger" in college.
