Neutral Shoe Suggestions

Asics Sky Speed. I love this shoe,light with plenty of cushioning, and they usually last me up too 700 miles.

What does neutral mean? It's a marketing term. minimalist might be a marketing term too, but at least it means something: less shoe between your foot and the ground. As far as I know, that's about as neutral as it gets. So what exactly is it you want?

I don't see the minimalist trend as any more trendy that the old "neutral vs control" trend bandwagon that you're still on, apparently. Old trend, new trend.

New Balance 880 or 890. NB is definitely moving in the right direction. The 890 version 2 is coming out very soon.

Were there problems with the Wave Rider 14?

Check out the rider 15. They fixed everything ad about the 14. Also, give the brooks ghost, eccel33 from asics, also give the saucony ride a try.

I was also an old fan of Pegasus and Landreth before they screwed them up. I now use Saucony Ride and Mizuno Wave Rider for bulk of training; Asics Speedstar for tempos and track; and Saucony ProGrid Peregrine for trails. All are great for neutral gait.

This thread depends entirely on your foot shape. If you like a more snug, wrapped feeling try a Saucony ride or mizuno wave rider 15. if you like/need a more roomy toe box, try ghost 4, or the new triumph 9 or cumulus/nimbus. NB is also heading in the right direction so the 880 would be a good bet too. 890 is good as well but is for very neutral runners and will not hold up as long as 880s. The new adidas glide 4 will be out very soon. I have never been a fan, but I tested it out recently (I work in a specialty shop) and I loved the feel of it. Good luck

I have well over 600 miles on a pair of 890's, so depending on your frame they can hold up for quite awhile. The Wave Rider 15 should be back to being more like the 12/13 for most people. My second pair of Brooks Launch is over 300 miles and feels fairly new.

Go to a good specialty store and see what feels good to your foot.

I've tried out a lot of shoes lately. I really like the NB line and direction too. I'll only talk about the shoes I like.

While I have not tried the 890, and I keep thinking the heel/toe ratio is really steep, I'm getting a little tempted.

My current favorite shoe is the NB 1400. I like everything about it. It is supposed to be 10mm h/t ratio, but that is not what it feels like. I run in it almost every day.

I have the NB Minimus Road. I like the heel/toe ration, but have to be honest, I don't love the look of the shoe.

Looking forward to what NB is offering in 2012. Can you say, "new 110"?

redux - Just picked up a pair of the 1400's. Very similar feel to the 890 just less substantial. I don't notice the difference in the 10 v. 12mm drop at all.

If you wait for the 890v2 it is supposed to have less drop.

Any idea when the 890 v2 is coming out? I'm real close to getting the v1 because I keep thinking I could use a slightly bigger shoe but don't want to lose the 1400. It fits amazing.

Should be out in February. 4mm less heel. .5 oz lighter. Haven't had them on side by side, so I couldn't tell you exactly how much difference you'll feel. I think you'll be happy if you go with the current 890.

Need to clarify

The 1400 is slightly more snug fitting - almost like it runs 1/4 size smaller. They are not identical, but I can say you are not going to find another more substantial shoe that fits as similarly.

That makes sense since the 1400 is a flat and the 890 is a trainer. Maybe I need to get a set of trainers and stop training in flats?
