Stupid phone. Shoe reps - how'd you get your gig?
Connections.....
Agreed with connections - got my job through a very reputable and well known retailer that does big business with all of staple running brands.
If you don't have a connection, try to meet the reps at your local running store. Offer to take them out for a run & a beer - start the conversation there.
Another option: If you work at a retail store try to go to a big trade show like The Running Event or Outdoor Retailer. Walk around, hand out resumes, introduce yourself.
This should go without saying but if you do that, make sure to be courteous. The run-specialty & outdoor industry is laid back (to a fault) except when it comes to being unwelcome in a booth/meeting space and interrupting important conversations with clients.
Best idea is to actually get a job at a running store. Kick ass there and you will have offers soon thereafter. Most companies want at least a couple years retail experience, unless you are a smoking hot chick with good organizational skills. Then you can get a job anywhere.
