My Ex-Girlfriend Died

I hooked up with a girl in high school from a neighboring town, and she was killed the next day in a horrible car accident. It really shook me up because I had just met her the day before, and I knew we'd meet up again. This was long before Al Gore invented the internet, so people really only communicated by phone. I wouldn't have heard about it so soon except her friend made an effort to track me down and tell me the news. All her friend knew about me was my first name, grade, and what kind of watch I wore, but she was able to find me. I was glad she did.

Obviously this is different because 1) I found out right away, and 2) we were never serious, but it really tore me up since it happened the day after we met.

If I were in your shoes I'd have to get more info. Even the short relationships I've had were meaningful to me. You obviously cared about her and still do.

Did you know her parents well?

Humans are voyeuristic and inquisitive by nature; that's why we can't help but look at car accidents. Considering that chances are highly likely that the car accident wouldn't involve anyone you knew, it's understandable that you would be interested in what became of your ex.

Very sad...but it sounds like she at least got to live a little by hooking up with you before she passed. A young individual dying is always heartbreaking - but I do think about people who die in the middle of a life unfulfilled. That really pains me.

Lucky you didn't Marry her you would be a widower... Sorry for your loss nonetheless...

You are pretty vague about how the relationship ended "on very bad terms", so I'm assuming you screwed it up, dumped her and hurt the hell out of her. And it doesn't sound like you moved on if you were looking for her. And would she have considered you a friend at this point? Doesn't seem likely.

It's natural to feel guilty, but the past is what it is.

I had a innocent fling with a boy in college who happened to be a good "college" friend of my brother's best friend from high school. My brother was none too pleased about the possible brewing relationship and put an end to it behind my back. I didn't hear from him for several weeks. I interpreted his not calling/contacting me as him not being interested. As it turns out, my brother threatened him not to call me anymore and he was soon thereafter killed in a freak accident (i.e., hit by a vehicle while running on the beach). My brother's friend is to this day permanently disfigured from the accident (he was hit along with his friend on the beach). I didn't learn the truth until months later after my brother's friend had recovered and was out of the hospital. I still think about him 20+ yrs later.

If you live a normal lifespan, a lot of people you know and love are going to pass from your life. I don't know that you ever get used to it, but you learn to accept it, and in time, realize it's a very intrical part of life itself. Not necessarily good, but not necessarily bad either.

How long ago would this have happened? Pre-Facebook? I've been a Facebook member for almost 8 years and that's only because I resisted it for the first two years thinking I was cool because of that. Are you really asking us about something that happened years ago (assuming you learned about Facebook late even)?

This has happened twice to me. One girl, off and on relationship that she first didn't want and then I didn't. She was killed in a car accident. I am happily married now, but I had mixed emotions. I was crazy about her at one time. The other girl was a high school fling. She died of a heart defect of some sort.

I feel your pain.

I have something like this that haunts me. I was with a woman for several years. We eventually went our separate ways - pretty much by mutual agreement. A few years later, I get a call from a mutual friend and this woman had died in her sleep from 'unknown' causes. Even two weeks later, no one knew the cause. She had problems with depression and I have a hunch that she killed herself. I don't live in the area anymore and don't really know her family that well. I think about her all the time and I would rest easier if I know how she had passed away.

Yes, but that would exclude the fact that Shoebacca claimed to have resisted registering for 2 years. He suggests Facebook started roughly 10 years ago. This also ignores the period in which Facebook was only open to the Ivy League.

i was head over heels for my most recent ex, she moved for me, then suddenly ended the relationship. i found out she lied about mostly everything for the last year we were together. if she died, i would send her parents flowers but would not attend the funeral. i would have no sympathy for her, only for her family.

Of the eight--one wife, three former gfs and one ex wife have died, two I lost track of and the last was alive at 7:30 am today. None of that killed me so I'm pretty sure you'll survive this no matter if you know or not.
