Oh, and more importantly, congrats Lalang, even though it was expected, and, more importantly, Chris Derrick, who has had a stunningly consistent career. Huge things in store for him. Always love watching Puskedra race, too. I was pulling hard for him. Korir was about where expected, given that he hasn't looked as strong as in the past. Not surprised by Cam Levins. Good run. Great by Ahmed.

No one is saying, "Why didn't GF just win, or I can't believe GF didn't decide to get top 5 here." What is disappointing is to see what was once a fierce competitor who seemed willing to run himself into the ground to pursue greatness, now seemingly without that drive that made him great. I'm not sure how that makes me so ignorant. Sports isn't some rational, mature, high brow thing here, guys. Why don't you ease off of the bizarrely personal condemnations here?
how exactly are you measuring his drive? Some guys just look calm no matter what they are feeling. Sounds like you just THINK GF could be top 5 if he tried - not sure why you think that is true. -

I think you're forgetting that Fernandez beat both Puskedra and Derrick while injured, though. Just saying. I don't think he was even able to train for like a week or two leading up to Junior XCs.
He wasn't injured when he ran the race. If he couldn't train week or two before, he was all the more perfectly rested and taking deadly serious what was nothing but a ticket to a free vacation and fun run for Derrick and Puskedra after their excellent All American performances at Indoors. Damn, you people are still going on about a stupid Junior race after 4 full years of NCAA championship XC results showing Derrick > Puskedra > German. -
anyone know how you can view your entries for the prediction contest? i have no idea who i picked for the women, but it just says 'the contest is closed' whenever i try to look and see who i picked

Derrick has had a GREAT career, but all he iever is, is just a brides maid, never winning anything big, but always being able to keep up with the pack. Doesn,t have enough strength or the speed to win a championship. As for Luke, this is all he has is just XC, which is good for him. Fernandez ran a good solid and strong race, nothing to be ashamed of.
As far as Derrick "going for it" of course he should have, since his team had no chance in hell of winning the team title (this is the 1st time while at Stanford) so why not? Fernandez has his team that did have a chance for the team title. Luke we all know was running as a indvidual. Was a bummer to see Darling BOMB in the race today though. Levins ran great, he even thought and was hoping that the race was gonna be over at 3k. -

I agree. German does always look like that whether he's running hard or not. In all honesty, it's just bad coaching. The team couldn't win it with superstars and kenyans.

Yes, he was injured. I believe it was a foot injury, which is why it took him awhile to take off during the track season (originally lost to Derrick, then reclaimed the US JR in the 5000m).
Hard to think that not running for a couple weeks actually helped German, but you're just trolling, so whatever. -

You assaulted me, and I'll show up to the courtroom in crutches, bandages, and patch over my eye to prove it. I'm wearing stuff, proves I'm injured and not a headcase. -
Any links to results up yet?

Everyone knows that Silja will blow up! She is soft! Lets take bets as to when the blow up occurs!!

There's no reason why GF shouldn't have expected that he could run with the top 6 or 7. He has the track PRs, he has had some solid injury free running after missing outdoor, he has been right at the top in every single race he's entered, etc. So I'm measuring it by the fact that he settled for a 10ish finish from the beginning instead of running with what have traditionally been his peers.
Granted, maybe he just knew that he was nowhere close to their level, which is a shame, too. I'm not trying to bash the guy. 11th at NCAAs is still fantastic. And he's still got loads of talent. -
that womens race is actually fun
