A few friends and I are planning on taking a road trip next weekend for a few days down to the South Carolina/Georgia area (from northern Maryland).
It'll probably last 4 or 5 days, and we are planning on making it as inexpensive as possible (camping out instead of getting a hotel, etc).
That includes food. Now, the other people are not runners and only slightly "athletic", and probably could care less what they/we eat. But I, as a runner, try to watch what I eat, and certainly don't want to end up eating McDonalds on the road all the time. Therefore I think we are going to pack some cheap food ahead of time to save money and to plan ahead so we're not stuck with shitty fast food later on.
What kind of things do you guys suggest? Keep in mind we're looking for low cost stuff, and we might try to buy some stuff in bulk. Also, it's just us in a car, not a lot of room for any refrigerating other than perhaps a Coleman cooler to keep things cold for a day or so.
There will be supermarkets where we're going, so if we do need stuff that has to be kept cold (milk, etc) we can of course buy it down there, but we're trying to get as much of the buying done beforehand.
Also, as with many vacations, I may not be able to run quite as much as I normally would during those 5 or so days, so I may want to kind of monitor the number of calories I ingest during that time just so I don't end up putting on a few pounds.
We should have a small camping stove (to cook spaghetti, etc. on), but other than that, supplies are limited.
Any suggestions would be great, and thanks in advance.
