But is Africa in the United States?????????
W A D A
I was going to add Barack Obama to the list but I don't think he was born in the U.S. either :)
You cant be Mexican American if you were born in America
You can't be Asian American if you were born in the United States.
You can't be Azerbaijani American if you were born in the United States.
Maybe the answer lies here
Who is the fastest off road Black American? Like trail running or mountain runner, cross country even?
I think its more correct to call a Black person born in America a Black American rather than African American
What about Off road? wrote:

Agreed.
Who is the fastest black marathoner born in the United States? Is what i should have asks. we all know who holds the american record for the marathon. I find it funny that ryan hall is known as the fastest non-african. what does that really mean? why not say he is the fastest white guy to run the distance in america. We know that KK is the fastest period, I think its sad that most people didn't know the answer to that question. In 1979, was when the record was set! 2:11.52 shows that black athletes can run the distance. You mean to tell me that in 32 years no other black american has been able to run that time or better? Its not a race thing for me, i love what ryan hall is doing for our sport. I just wanted to know who the fastest marathoner was for each of these groups..fastest marathoner for american, non-african, and fastest black american.
Having trained with Herm , Jimmy Jet Johnson , Mike Layman and the rest of the Bill Roe era Club Northwest guys the year Herm ran his PR I can tell you he varied from approx 25 to 65 mpw. We raced quite a bit and much of the running was at very fast pace. So while 20 might have been Herm being Herm not all that far off.
Layman was a black guy? Coincidence, Club Northwest has another black guy who is also pretty quick now. Are there many black people in Washington?

No, Layman isn't black. Nor is Jim Johnson. I think Dan was just mentioning them as others he trained with, besides Herm.
I remember the first time I saw Herm. I was still in HS and was running on Highway 99 near Lynnwood when I looked across the road and saw this guy gliding past at a very fast clip. Who the hell was that!?, I remember thinking. I had no idea who he was, but I knew just from the way he moved that he was a talented fellow. He may still have been running for the UW then.
I think he had a running shop at the Everett Mall in the mid-80s. He was also a cop, I think, and there was at least one story about his chasing down a criminal who had no idea how futile it was to try to outrun him.

He's not: Toshinari Takaoka.
Non-african doesn't mean white.
The answer to the OP - as soon as Jeremy Wariner runs a marathon.
oh thats right!! he ran for the usa....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toshinari_Takaoka
Ryan Hall is the fastest non-african (born) in the states.
He probably meant 110-120 which was about what Bill Gladd was doing weekly when he won the Seattle Marathon in 1978. Herm and his business partner Graham Barr opened a running shoe store in Everett Washington in the late 70s and devoted alot of time to training.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
