All I can say is he's a jerk for abandoning the team right before regionals.

Douchey move bailing 2 days out from region when the team is borderline at best as is. Lack of character on his part. I'd like to know if there was something more behind this than the perceived primma donna/homesick/couldn't handle a tough couple races story.
This is a terribly arrogant move. They paid for your first semester, meals, room, etc. you have teammates you have abandoned.
Wow, this really shows that his parents maybe did a good job coaching him, but a poor job in bringing him up.
Is it the right time to donate our used bicycles to Kenyans?
I am sure Lukas is a good person and a nice guy, but nothing he has done athletically has shown an ability/desire to put a team first. It's not that I fault his decision, but the timing rubs me the wrong way. He can't finish out the xc season? As the article states, he's not a candidate for the 2012 Olympics. Oregon used up scholarship money, was flexible to allow him to do the World Junion triathlon championships, etc. etc. and he bails on them right before the regional meet? Unless I'm missing something, that is poor form and suggests a lack of respect for being a part of a team.

If that happens, the Triathlon will lose viewers on TV as the richer countries of the world won't be winning.
By the way Americans, don't take out loans to buy those bikes to donate!
Something is defintely up that we do not know about. XC season is over in less than 2 weeks. He can;t be in that much of a hurry to get to triathlon training. Also, wouldn't he want to finish the semester or quarter so that he can get credits transferred to the new university?
Very dissapointing he is being so selfish.
FAILING
Maybe Jordan turned him down.
Lukas has always been a selfish person. He's like a sheltered child who gets everything he wants and doesn't know what to do once he gets on the outside. I understand a little bit if he would have run the whole season, but to ditch your team right before regionals like this is stupid.

And your point is.........
That the statement I quoted isn't true.
Read the entire sentence and it might makes sense to you.

I agree. WTF? Makes no sense.
Lukas ran 14:20 as a freshman in high school, he clearly has the potential and talent to compete with the Kenyans.
Luk-ass, that was a piss poor thing to do to your team, you are a little baby cat!
I'd like to compare his sprint times to a full ITU race - my hunch is that his swim and bike are slow but the run? There at least a dozen guys in tri that can run 29:00 off the bike. Good luck with that Lukas.
Lets see...
1) He doesn't have to deal with 4 years of the BS NCAA rules on income.
2) He doesn't have to deal with the NCAA Div 1 running meat-grinder and likely end up injured.
3) He will have a MUCH longer career as a triathlete
Yeah he sounds really dumb to me...

College studying likely had an impact as well. College is a lot of work. LV seems to be after what makes him the most comfortable. Competing in a sport he really likes, and not worrying about class work and tests. There is nothing wrong with that. Hopefully he will do well with his choice.
haha college is not hard anymore. any recent grad will tell you. college is 13th-16th grades and i doubt this was the reason

Oh, you mean that one time a year when triathlon is shown on NBC?
Triathlon is a participant sport, not a spectator sport.
One of the outstanding talents of the last 25 years, and now he is diminishing that talent, diluting it by doing triathlons? What a waste of natural, god given ability, in a sport where I and so many struggle so hard, knowing full well we'll never be worth anything, never amount to more than fifth rate amateurs never-wases, because we haven't the natural talent.
It is a slap in the face, and i hope he fails, and gets a stress fracture.
