No. There is another.

Kid, it's only long distance running. Who really cares in the grand scheme? A Federal Reserve that knows what's it's doing, competent economic policy advisors who don't merely retreat back to Berkeley or Princeton or become op-ed writers for the New York Times, and a scalable domestic energy policy... that's you're only hope.
If you don't care what are you doing on here

Rupp is way overrated and wont amount to anything.
Please post your 10,000 meter time.
Thank you.
Typical letsrun response, you can't run as fast as runner x therefore you can't criticize runner x. This logic is flawed in so many ways.
Is Rupp planning on switching coaches? Alberto does not coach the marathon, just ask Kara.
Help me Obi Rupp Kenobi.... You're my only hope.

I care about running as much as the next guy, but I also care enough to warn these kids who do nothing but obsess over it that there's a helluva lot more to life, and much bigger fish to fry. I also do not ignore history; nor do I revise it or only select the parts that resonate with my belief system (and then teach it as such, which is sickening). Running is great. Supporting our top athletes is great. But for guys that get so wrapped up in it to the exclusion of just about everything else, well, they'll be in for a very rude awakening, most of them.
Go Rupp!
The grand irony is that I've been one of the biggest Rupp supporters on here, even calling out the Brojos when they rip him in jest and everyone else that wants to rib him. But, now, alas, he's our ONLY hope? While I don't agree with that notion fully, if he can develop his finishing speed, he has a chance at a medal; probably not a gold, but a medal nonetheless. Meb and Deena both medaled. It's not a stretch to see someone else come up in time either. But, right now, it looks like Rupp is our only runner with a shot at becoming a 26:30 guy, unless we import some others. But his career shouldn't be measured in terms of medals.

Another irony is that the OP just started the thread as a jest. I am honestly surprised that you did not pick up on that. It seemed so obvious.
Well, my original response was also somewhat in jest. It seemed so obvious, but then everyone took it so seriously, so I felt compelled to respond. How ironic.
Don't be so naive. As long as the Federal Reserve is running everything, Rupp doesn't have a chance. When Obama's Kenyan father interceded with the IMF in Lithuanian (Eastern block) transracial experimentation, our fate was sealed.
rupp definitely has a chance at the record. remember, rupp hasn't hit puberty yet
No, of course I'm not sure. But I don't know why you would get the impression he would go to marathon after 2012. If nothing else Salazar and Rupp probably don't even think about it themselves. But I remember reading that Salazar's fundamental basis for training Rupp is the notion that a runner's prime age for the 10,000 is about 28-30 if you stay reasonably healthy. The long term plan then was to keep mileage relatively low, develop and maintain speed, and build on each succeeding year in incremental steps. Rupp will be 30 in the 2016 Olympics and I think Salazar feels it can all come together then with a combination of both speed and strength. That said, I'm sure they will do a major career assessment after 2012. There is also the factor of money and what event Rupp is mentally drawn to.

Bro, Rupp would get paid so much if he was the American marathon record holder you don't even know.

Exactly. Look how much Rupp already neuroses over the 5000 and 10000. If he ever goes to the marathon he will have a stroke from all of the hydration tools / nutrition toys / cooling devices / heating machines / shredder masks Saladbar throws at him.

Even more typical of LRC is to claim that someone with a current AR "wont amount to anything".
Jesus Christ is our only hope!
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Rupp, I ran the 10k in school, but at the end of the day he's just a runner. Its not like he's curing cancer or anything.
How is Rupp going to run 26.2 with his goofy mask on???

How? Probably at about 4:50/mile pace but hopefully even faster.
Since nobody is taking this thread seriously as per the OP's assertion, Rupp's best chance at a medal on the track is 2012 in London as opposed to the heat and humidity of Brazil in 2016 (Salazar claimed the heat and humidity was a problem with him not being able to stay in contention late in Daegu, and he's probably right). If Rupp's close to mid-26 shape and improves his finishing speed next year, he's got a shot to sneak in. He may try to improve his PR in subsequent years, but waiting until 30 to move to the marathon would likely be a mistake. He'll probably jump up sooner.
