keep it. no one who will miss that would keep it in a roll like that. it can't be clean money and the cops will just keep it if you turn it in. also, hope it isn't counterfeit.

Just post an ad that says "cash found near [location x]" and require them to name the amount and denomination. Although since it's $1000 in 20s that's an easy guess. I'd keep it, it's GOT to be drug money. Do you really want to be meeting the guy who dropped that?

You should have immediately taken those monies to the nearest police station. Do it now!

I was kind of assuming it was coming/going to a bank.

I used to work retail, and we go drop a wad of cash off every few days, usually sorted pretty evenly like that.

It's def retail money. Drug dealers wouldn't make $1000 wads. It's not that much. When making deposits retailers wrap bills in packs of 50. I would ask any retail store close by if they lost part of a deposit. Otherwise its yours. Invest half blow the other half HAHAH

take one or two bills to the police/bank to check for counterfeit, but keep the rest.

You aren't going to find an ad on Craig's list. It was probably a retail deposit and has been reported to the police.

You need to call the police. If not, perhaps you could visit and hand out the money to the Occupy Wall Street protesters. You will be contributing at least in a small way to redistributing the wealth.

Chances are you are on camera somewhere. If the money was dropped or stolen and ditched, it's not too far-fetched to think someone might ask local businesses to share their surveillance tapes.

Other than Letsrun.com, have you told anyone about this? If not, keep your mouth shut. Do not tell anyone.

Read the local papers (including classified ads) and listen to the news. If it was a legit business that dropped it, it will probably come out in the media.

If it was drug money that was dropped, it obviously will not be reported. This is why you do not want anyone to know you have it. Some one else may get beat up or killed for losing it, and you don't want that to happen to you for finding it.

Once a month or so has passed, start spending it. Do not make a large purchase with cash, that will raise eyebrows. Just use it for your walking around money until it is gone.

Just curious, what is the population of the town/city in which you live? Is it a major city? Mid-size? Small town? The smaller the town, the more likely it will come out if it was a legit business. Also, the smaller the town, the less you want others to know you found it in case it was drug money.

I've lived and run in a pretty sketchy city my whole life. I learned pretty quickly not to pick things like that up (money, drugs, etc) because someone is frequently watching it. Or coming back for it. But no that you have it, I say keep it and don't run in that area for a while.
