the joker was supposed to get better every year, and win NCAAs. He's done neither.

the magician!
You're a bad fan and discredit to the sport. Webb's won multiple nat'l titles, set the nat'l mile record in 3:46, is an olympian, has won elite grand prix races, has finished world top 10 and maybe ran the most inspirational race ever. Yea, maybe his ability gave him a chance for a higher world placing or another nat'l title. But most every runner doesn't achieve quite 100% of their potential. Webb's been close, and has undoubtedly been tenacious his whole career. You badmouth him w/o merit nor appreciation, making you a bad fan.

Except that he has.

Hey, remember when Fernandez won NCAAs?

Against a field that had zero competition because everyone either dropped the 1500 or was injured and he still barely won?
Oh, stop. He'll be fine. He's only been training for a bit. Look for top 10 at ncaa's.

Of course, he was on course for a top 10 finish 3 years ago as a freshman, maybe top 5. Looking for a top 10 finish now as a senior seems like not a whole lot of progress.

Did he have a top 10 finish as a freshman? No? So how would a top 10 not be progress?
Maybe no competition but still won NCAA.
Freshman beating senior is quit impressive !
Because he finished 8th last year. Coming in 8th, 9th or 10th this year would not constitute continuous progress by definition.
...and yes, he probably would have finished top 10 as a freshman had he not hurt his ankle very late in the race.
I always like how everyone tries to discredit anyone who wins a title. Well how many runners are there in Div 1? and how many get to say they won a title? In the end except for the 1000 fans of running, who really cares about some 100 lbs. people running because they are not good enough to compete in any of the real sports? You get it now?
Ok then wrote:
You get it now?
No, please explain it more.

OK, so you have identified yourself as one with nearly unfathomable levels of stupidity. Congratulations!
yeah, front running a 3:39 on a windy day sucks. especailly with that joker ulrey sitting on him. i mean c'mon he only went on to run 3:35 that year. what weak competition! idiot.

Fernandez should have gone to Nike/Oregon and been treated differently because he is a rarity like Webb and Rupp. A collegiate cross country season is so unimportant. Yet as a scholarship athlete he has that pressure to be at his best every race. He should just say "Fuk it" and get a several months of injury free training and develop. Injuries are a bitch. Plenty of the greatest talents seem to be the most injury prone.
He did a double in high school of 4:00 and 8:38. He should have been a lock to run 13:00 for 5000 in a year. Just has to get the momentum back. It will come if he stays cool and stays with it.

And therefore his victory doesn't count? If you've watched the race, he crushed the field.
