Pitt does not even have a track on campus.
I think they borrow a high school track.
Like a lot of track programs Pitt's got pushed to the side in favor of basketball and football. The on campus outdoor track was demolished when Pitt stadium went down in favor of the Peterson Events Center. The indoor track is pretty bad. It's suitable for training, though. There are two good all-weather tracks within warmup jog distance of Pitt's athletic facilities. The Schenley Oval is a perfect XC and distance training loop - flat 1k oval with hard packed dirt.
A new track has been in the works for several years now. They have the land and all the plans drawn up. They need a few million bucks to build it. Any wealthy and generous Letsrunners out there?
Pitt's program is fully funded in the sense that they have 12.5 scholarships and use all of them. But the head coach chooses to use only 2-3 on distance/xc guys. The track team has a roster limit due to Title IX and the XC team has had a limit of 10 guys for at least the last decade.
Maybe the move to the ACC will bring in a little more money that is needed to turn the program around. It's not likely, though. Pitt and Syracuse will either be forced to stay in the league for 3 more seasons and pay a $5 million buyout or give up revenues for a few years to get out early. In the short term the athletic department is going to be very tight on money.
