Who will come out on top?
Who will come out on top?
Doesnt matter because Jacob Burcham would beat either
i don't think any high schooler in the country this year will be much competition for Cheserek.
Considering Cheserek will be "18" running as a junior this track season - LOL - and Futsum, like Cheserek is likely 20 or so, it's hard to picture many legit high schoolers giving them trouble. Talent + being well over hs age is a big advantage for these guys. The truth hurts, doesn't it? PC weenies all.

re:"Cheserek is likely 20"
What makes you think Ches is 20?
What do you know that we don't?
Ches would totally win... but will they ever face off? Futsum chose to only race FLN last year, while Cheserek is forced to choose between Nike and FL, and it seems likely he will return to NXN

this.
even though it probably isn't true
why is Cheserek forced to only run one?
All African kids are older than they say they are. They all want to beat younger white Americans.

Yeah. Just like the older Africans who wouldn't be able to beat the white Americans without ummm...well without....you know.
Well, anyway, there's no way the 17 year old Africans could beat the 17 year old white Americans since the 25 year old Africans get their asses handed to them every time they have to race 25 year old white Americans.
Oh wait. What I really meant to say...
Sheesh. I've tuned out to HS xc, but are overage Africans still running the show? how discouraging.
I've seen Futsum run since he was a freshman. When he was a freshman he LOOKED like a young kid freshman. I doubt he is overage.

Because NXN-NE and FLNE are on the same day. Only athletes in the FLMW and NXN-South regions can compete in both.
anyways, Cheserek > Futsum still...
Cheserek wasn't savvy enough to lie about his age. He almost wasn't eligible for his senior year! I guess no one in his family had an agent to advise them on how to get younger to get benefits.
Futsum came when he was 12 or so and had no reason to lie about his age since there was no expectation of his being a great athlete by his family.
Futsum came to America while he was in middle school, having never ran or intended to run cross country or track, but rather to escape the violence in Eritrea. He was a soccer player his freshman year until the throws coach at his high school saw him run the gym class mile and got him to go out for cross country. It wouldn't make sense for him or his family to lie about his age. Also, anyone who ran against him when he was a frosh would probably agree that he looked like he was at most 13 years old. he still doesn't look any different from any other high school kid.
he will destroy cheserek if they happen to race this postseason.
Discussed this exact question with my friend in Physics today. I have seen Futsum race I think 2 weekends already this weekend. Didn't Fut take down Jacob Burcham already this year? Lol that one poster has no idea what he's talking about. Anyways, my friend said Fut but I say Cheserek. Futsum has almost never gone all out and has never come out on top with someone at his level. Last year he won like 3 races in a row by exactly ten seconds each (I mean the important ones) and I think it will be too hard for him to go up against someone like him. When Lukas pushed him at FLMW last year (I watched that race) he got absolutely ripped. I think Futsum is great and that he will win NBN in the 2 mile once he learns but IMO Cheserek will win the XC Nats this year (if they face off at all).

Mostly right. He was a soccer player in middle school, but did run cross country in 8th grade. You are right about the throws coach seeing him run a mile in gym class in middle school and convincing him to run cross country.
I don't think either will destroy the other. If they race it will be close.

Perhaps I should not be the one to speak since there are NJ people who know a lot more about Cheserek, but based on what I do know, Futsum and Cheserek are at 2 different levels. Futsum wants to win his state championship and place high at FLNC, Cheserek at NXN last year was closing down on perhaps Amercia's greatest H.S. distance runner and is expected to win which ever H.S. XC national meet he attends and to chase natioanl track records this year. I am pretty sure the 2 of them have raced somewhere and I'm pretty sure it wasn't close.
During the summer, i went to one of the holmdel long runs. Alot of the the top NJ guys go there such as the Rosas, Cheserek, Elkaim, Tim Ball, Matt Mcdonald, and all the CBA guys. The Rosas and Cheserek were the only people in the 90 minute group not yet in collage or out of collage. When they came back from their 90 minute run at probaly under 6 minute pace, the rosas looked like they had just raced a marathon and Cheserek literally wasn't even sweating. I expect cheserek to win whatever nationals he chooses in over 20 seconds. I also expect Cheserek to go well under 14 minutes at his county course (which is known for fast times).

I would actually rank Cheserek ahead of Futsum as most people have even though I am from Indiana. BUT, Lukas was running NXN just to win. Cheserek was only closing down on him because Lukas slowed up at the end once he knew he had the victory. He knew he had Foot Locker the next weekend.
Also, where do you get your info on what Futsum's goals are?
