Rojo, you are so unbelievably hard-headed. It's almost as if you do these things intentionally because you want people to hate you. I don't think that's it though. I think you're just stubborn idiot, which is the worst kind of idiot.
Thanks for the explanation Rojo. Did you pay any attention to Pat Butcher's on a true creep that is steeling money (100's of thousands of dollars) from Ethiopian and Kenyan runners? So far the IAAF have yet to act despite that they were apparently "monitoring" the situation from February - but first informed by several managers/athletes as early as 2008!
See:
http://www.globerunner.org/index.php/09/road-rage/
It would be great if LetsRun gave this dire situation some real attention!!

Drudge makes the news interesting. We try to make running interesting.
No he doesn't. He grabs headlines/news links, and either simply re-prints them, or spins them in a sensational or right wing angle, puts them in boring small type, and thinks he is providing something useful/new/interesting? Puh-leaze. Drudge report is the most overrated website of all time. Right wingers like it simply because it spins some headlines in ways they like, or picks some stories ("OBAMA A SOCIALIST, PROVEN BY SCIENCE!") that they eat up. There is nothing interesting about, and it is a boring fraud. There are million sites where you can get the same stories and info from.
At least LetsRun is fairly unique (not that many sites dedicated to distance running), and comes up with lots of its own commentary and stories (drudge does this occasionally). Don't do a disservice to yourselves and compare yourselves to drudge. Wow. Only a conservative from texas could think this is a compliment.

your retarded then...obviously if this website has ANY following both rupps people and solinskis people have seen this. rupps people probably laughed there asses off and solinskis people chuckled alittle because its funny in the eyes of non-up tight hobby joggers who like to think they know everything. you may know a thing or two about training and nutrition but do not think for a second that this was a serious post. hence the subtleness of the post because only a few people know the true underlying message. and no im not being subtle right now
Putting aside your inability to use "you're" and "their" correctly, there is nothing subtle about a picture with a giant red "X" through it. Nor is a post with an underlying message a joke. You seem to think because you're fast in your own eyes that you see more meaning in the post than others. I think you're wrong.

You are a complete idiot if your aim is to be more like the NFL. What are you hoping to eventually get to rojaine? Do you want fans beating each other to death in the stands when one "rival" wears the others hat? How about shootings out in the parking lot when your "guy" loses or DNFs? No wait, wait, how about non-stop tailgaiting and binge drinking in the parking lots before all meets where "fans" are puking and pissing on spot? Or better yet how about fights in the stands when someone "disrespects" your guy or gal? I am a fan of track and field precisely because it is not the NFL, NBA, MLB, or any of the other severly bloated, idiot fueled, violence condoning "sports."
Stop trashing a sport that actually trys to foster healthy competition. You idiot.
While I agree that the Solinsky picture was a poor choice, you really need to calm down. What you describe-running being a sport with NFL/NASCAR-like fans tailgating before meets and acting like drunkards-will never happen, and you know it. Runners and the people who actually care enough about the sport to attend meets are not drunken fools. Rojo was trying to get people talking, and he did just that. It is the Johnsons' website, and as such they are allowed to post whatever they want.
But shouldn't we be talking about running. This is a 5 page thread on the judgement of the site's founders and not the new AR set by Rupp. No one, in this thread, is talking about the Rupp / Solinsky rivalry, they are talking about why the hell the Brojos would post a pic of Sol. with a red X over it. That picture did nothing to enhance the sport of running. It only reflected poorly on Letsrun and the Brojos.

I don't need either running or news "[made] interesting." Only idiots need or want that.

Great idea that was, because the performance in and of itself wasn't going to get many people talking.

No shit, Sherlock. And decent people are allowed to think and say that something they posted was in poor taste and judgment. Your "random thoughts" aren't worth the paper they aren't printed on.

Exactly what I said. It's like the Brojos intentionally do things just be hated, look like incredibly morons, and lose any shred of respect anyone has for them. I don't understand it. Unbelievable. That reply by Rojo just confirms how retarded they are.
Thank you--the news, if it is news, is interesting enough on its own. It doesn't need "experts" like Rojo or, God forbid, Drudge, to spin it to make it interesting. So Rojo, your choice of analogy is both telling and disappointing.
So too, for that matter, is your defense that you wanted to "prove a point" that no matter what picture you posted, people would give you flack. I have a hard time believing that was the original motivation of that inflammatory front-page picture.
But regardless of whether it was or was not your true motivation, my original point still stands: you are incapable of apologizing, and you will justify every mistake you make--no matter how tasteless it is--by grasping at whatever straws necessary. I challenge you to apologize for the poor judgment you showed yesterday in a vain attempt to make the sport of running more "interesting"--but we all know that's too much to ask.

I agree. I was responding to one person about his interpretation of Rojo saying he wanted running to be more like the NFL, and how he completely made the wrong assumption from Rojo's statement. I just don't get why people get so worked up over what the Brojos post when they are entitled to whatever opinion they want, seeing as they own the website. I come here 99.99% to read what other people, not the Johnsons, have to say about running. It just amazes me how many people get worked up over a stupid picture.

If he wants to get people talking about athletes, events, training methods, governing bodies...I think this would be a good thing.
If he wants to get people talking about how classless Rojo is (which is the only thing that he succeeded at here) then I don't really see much value in that.
Regarding "it's their site and they can do what they want..." This is both true and inane.
"It's a free country. A man can say what he wants" is a defense of a man's right to say whatever he wants. It is not a defense of what was said, which may well be asinine and classless.
Any sort of a "hit" (page view) on Letsrun helps the Brojos make money. Why would he give a shit if it is because of a a stupid reason (talking about the Solinsky pic) or not (talking about Rupp's AR). I know I sure as hell wouldn't if I ran this site.

Integrity? Are you really going to make the argument that any act is defensible as long as it makes you money?

No, I am not going to make that argument, and I do not know where you got that idea. I WILL make the argument that when the act is posting a photo of a man crouching next to a clock with a red "x" through it on a website, then yes, I do think that is defensible if it makes one money.
they don't kiss ass of poster or big shot runers
that's why this site is great
What an embarrassing reply Rojo. If you want to continue portraying this site as a world-class hub for running, you may try to keep things a bit more professional.
Yes it's your site, but if you want it to be ignored like most personal blogs out there, you had better get your sh*t together regarding your market. There are Rupp fans and Solinsky fans, but each group understands classless attempts to embrace sensationalist journalism.
I hope you issue a retraction or apology before approaching Solinsky for another interview. If he has his head on straight, he and his agent will snub you and stick to your competitors (flotrack, runnersworld.com, runnerspace.com) before allowing you to sniff his jock again.
99% of the negative comments about the pic are solinsky fanboys...im sure if it were solinsky smashing a rupp record or a ritz smashing a webb record, the same whiners would be defending the pic...
hey, the pic is down, so the whiners have no case now. no pic, no evidence, suckers...
