There were a couple of interesting posts on Oregonlive before the thread was deleted. Can any OR XC followers explain what happened to that team, the coaches and parents over the last couple of years that have led to this ugly break-up?

Pretty sad from what I understand. West Linn had that very talented class, so when the coach did well with them (couple of 3rd places at state I believe) the parents decided that was not enough.
Guess most of the top kids went and worked with a private coach(assuming Bob Williams), sorry if not but this is where every kid goes when they leave their program.
Parents wanted coach out, the other track coach wanted the XC coach out....that was enough to send a long time coach home packing.
I don't know all the details, but what I do know is that the WL parents will get on here and bash what I just wrote even though this is what I heard from a runner at their school.
Funny how once a coach brings a team to success, the parents all of a sudden think the coach hasn't done enough. If they would have stayed average he would still have a job most likely.
Good lesson there, be average, because if you are good and don't become great you will get canned.
Not familiar with this situation--anyone have more detail?
You make some interesting points. I'd say that's true of many places even if you have become great. Most people seem to want more than they have, no matter how much they have.
I was surprised to read this on oregonlive. I thought West Linn had a great program (although I was just an average observer) and the coach seemed really dedicated.
Ironically, while they were ranked all year as one of the best teams in the state, they DIDN'T do well this year at state, finishing 7th. Their best runner had been 2nd the year before, but was only 22nd. Injuries? Sickness? Bad day? I don't know, but I'm sure it was a disappointing result.
Weird thing is, if the trouble-making parents were at fault and all their kids were seniors, why fire the coach now?
Very sad.
From what I've been told four of their top runners all trained with someone else during the "off periods". This alone would kill almost any team. If the top runners say the coach isn't good enough then the slower guys are sure as heck going to think the same thing....Team chemistry...gone....same peaking time?? Not likely.
They tried to fix something that wasn't broken. Like I said, kid on the team told me the two track coaches hate each other. The AD must have liked the other guy better...
Sounds like a few people were just looking for a reason to get rid of the coach, and when they couldn't find anything they more or less tried to make up their own justifications.
But like I said, I was not a runner on the team, everything I know is word of mouth.
