Depends on how scientific you want to get, Lore of Running is much more like a textbook than Daniels. I'm kind of nerdy but I prefer Noakes.[quote]xcrunner27 wrote:

It is a little dated now, but in my view would be my pick if I only had one book on running. Helps you understand things more than any other book, or at least it did for me, and I followed a lot of things before it. Now I am not quite so concerned as my competitive days are many years in the past and the amount of running that I can do is significantly limited. I lend it out (carefully) to those coming in to the sport and in need of appropriate background.

You know what though, a lot of things come full circle or take a while to get out. Some of the stuff that he wrote, for example: you should hydrate yourself according to how thirsty you are, was not what was common knowledge at that time. Now it is.
He does have his own opinions that may or may not jive with everyone. He really believes that training has less to do with things than talent does and believes that the brain shuts you down before your body.
Good book. If you are a coach or running nerd, it is a must.

First running book I ever got, in junior high.
16 years later, the cover is bent up and folded over, it has spilled Gatorade on it, and numerous pages are highlighted/underlined/and paperclipped for reference. Still haven't read the whole thing and always learning something new from it (even being a very outdated version).
Yes, it's worth it.
Thanks for the input everybody! I assume I can get it cheap off Amazon and I hope its as good as you guys said.
