you probably saw in the news recently that myspace was sold by newscorp for 31 million dollars, a fraction of wat newscorp paid for it 5 years ago.
it has also slipped in traffic to the likes of LinkedIn.
What aspect of the site killed it, in your opinion?
For me, I think it was the new changes that were made to it. It is slow as hell. The original design was so much better. The chat actually worked right. Now, it is shitty, the chat sucks, and the new design is stupid adn retarded.

Have you been on myspace lately. It's so littered with shit you can't make heads or tails out of anything. It's cluttered, loud, and hard to navigate. Not good.

this. people got fed up and migrated to facebook mainly where ads aren't as obvious
the original myspace was the best, in my opinion, even if the users made ugly html pages.
if they could bring back the original layout, without the virus and phishing problem...myspace will be awesome again.
the new one-size-fits-all layout stinks. plus the amount of spam generated by Myspace itself (i.e. MyPrizes and spotlight) and other bullshit.

Who said it was your space to begin with?
1. Ugly pages. You actually had to highlight text on certain pages because some people thought it would be a good idea to type dark blue text on a black background.
2. Difficult to find real friends. They may have improved it over the years but I know at first it was a real pain in the ass to find somebody who was not in one of your friends' lists. Whenever somebody friend requested me I thought to myself, "wow, they really put a lot of effort into finding me."
3. Spam. I constantly got messages and friend invites from bands, businesses, and porn stars.
Facebook just had a much cleaner look.

The design was just horrible and cluttered, and it was slow to change and adapt to Internet users' ever-changing needs. All it took was a half-way competent development team (Facebook) to take them over. Facebook killed MySpace, it's as simple as that.

There is one other obvious thing...
Myspace had a limit on pictures. Facebook didn't. Facebook quickly not only became the big social place, but it became the place where people could load all their pictures, and easily share them. It not only replaced the social network aspect for people that myspace gave, but it replaced things like flickster and such.
Facebook is next.
