Jacob Burcham ran 3:46.55 to take 7th place among the world's best in the final at Junior Worlds. The kid is 16 years old and just started running a few years ago. This was his first big international competition.
I'm just appalled that nobody is talking about this. We may have the next big American miler on our hands here. He's already ahead of where Alan Webb was at this point in his high school career.
If you're truly appalled by this then you need to find some more important things to worry about.
Any reason you didn't just comment on the thread that was already started on this yesterday?

This converts to like a 4:04-4:05 mile or so.
Quite frankly, we had a host of runners this year better than that, including Oshier, Cheserek, Mudd, and of course Verzbicas
I'm appalled that it took this long for the OP to be apalled. Why didn't he start a thread earlier and get some conversation going? I guess he just doesn't care that much about the next great American miler. Simply appalling.

Since it is YOUTH worlds, and NOT junior worlds, you have confused anyone not really paying attention.
So the poster who includes Verzbikas et al doesn't understand the age group (age-cheating Africans notwithstanding) limitation. It's a great run that already has a thread or two on the subject.

IAAF conversion is 4:04.46 for the mile, which is better than the current soph mile record. Bright future for Jacob.

It's better than the "Virgin-Certified" soph record. Not the actual soph record.
Who was previous US age 16 recordholder? Webb has mile
record, far as I know (4:06.94 - =c.3:48.6 !) Always nice to see new records from outa nowhere..!
Burcham has been knocking on the door of some of the class and age group records for the past 2 years. Last year, he cam within .03 seconds from the national freshman mile record and this year he was very close to Jeff See's sophomore mile record.
Is it not the sophomore record? Which before was See at 4:05.xx, breaking Webb's record. Don't follow the slow lil guys any more.

Burcham set the sophomore 1500m record at the world championships, but he only went 4:07 for the mile this year. Jeff See's record stands.
There is absolutely no way on this earth that the Kenyan is 13 yrs old.....no way. For the love of evolution, can't we carbon date humans if we can carbon date dinosaurs?? The Kenyans are straight up just mocking the IAAF system now. Seriously.....13 yrs old...my nephew is 12 and I just can't see how this would be possible, any pics of this kid??
3:46 is pretty solid here in the US of A. I mean, the kid would have been well clear of Centro with a time like that at USATF Champs last month.

Jeff See's record only stands as the number 2 sophomore time after Cheserk broke it a couple months ago. Burcham v. Cheserek looks like a great combination to get the 2nd and 3rd underclassmen sub-4s.
