Of course this post was sarcasm (let's hope), but rabbits wouldn't necessarily make a championship 1,500 fast. It's not uncommon for the field to stay well behind the rabbits and just look at each other even in races that people travel to specifically to get fast times. And that's not always the fault of the rabbits for going too fast. Sometimes the runners just automatically assume the other guys will follow the rabbits or else they're more concerned with winning. Sounds pretty dumb for a time trial race, but being concerned with winning is ALL they'd do in the US Championships, rabbits or no rabbits.
A couple of the actual competitors in the final who wanted a fast pace but were unwilling to lead would be more likely to latch onto the rabbits, then the others would stay close, but given the above scenario of time trial races where the field doesn't go with the pace (which does happen from time to time), there's STILL no guarantee of that. If some fans are pissed about a slow pace now, think how much more pissed they'd be if there WAS a rabbit or two and the main field STILL refused to run that pace!
Bad pelling, you say? Oh, how iliterate of me. I'm unerved by this.
