*Serious* USA champs 1500 discussion

Brown and Wheating top 2, I believe. After that it's a crap shoot. Maybe Torrence, definitely not Centrowitz. Are the runners you listed the only guys in the race? Seems like we're missing some names. Manzano has the talent but he's been incredibly inconsistent this season as has Lmong. Not sure what's going on with those two. Hopefully they can get things together.

I think the race will definitely be slow and will come down to the last 150 meters. Winning time probably 3:37 or just a hair under that. U.S. 1500m races are traditionally slow, sit-and-kick affairs. That does leave a lot of room for surprises. It's going to fun to watch who comes out on top when the kicking is done.

Manzano has been racing poorly all season, I wouldn't even call it inconsistent. But he could always surprise and deserves mention.

Lomong has been inconsistent but his Bowerman mile and past credentials make me favor him over torrence and ncaa guys. Plus he seems to be still peaking unlike many others

I wish Lagat was in the race. Why don't we have any young guys like him anymore? You know the kind that can kick hard and consistently place top 3 in major events? It's frustrating. We've had some glimpses here and there but by and large our 1500m guys are not consistent year over year.

Hopefully Russell Brown is the real deal and hopefully Wheating settles on the 1500m and lives up to his potential.

Centro is sooooooo smooth. He will make top 3 guaranteed. it will come to a kick and centro will show up for the home crowd.

Brown has been running great all year. Lomong was won this the last 2 years. Wheating has been beating USA's best 1500 runners (Lagat, Lomong, Manzano) for the past year.

Let's keep in mind that NO ONE has the "A" standard at this point, so talking about the finish at USA's and who will be on the team might be two separate discussions (i.e., getting top three next weekend does not mean as much if those guys can't go out and actually qualify for the world meet).

What I'm saying is that if we're talking about who will ultimately be on the team in Daegu, we also have to consider who can then go out and get the "A" standard this summer. Unless someone goes crazy at the national meet, it's going to be close to mid-July (probably) before anyone starts taking serious shots, leaving about a month to six weeks before the August 8 deadline.

So--the real question is, who will be top three (or near the front) AND run sub-3:35 by August 8?

There is no way that Lomong is not in the top 3. He is just rounding into form like this time every year. Only someone that has not watched the American 1500m runners over the last 3 years would fail to pick Lomong. He may not win but WILL make the team.

Wheating based upon history should also make the team.

Manzano is not even running as well as his inconsistent performances from the past. He is only the 3rd best in his training group let alone the country. I say he is left out.

Brown is running well but I think he loses the final spot to Centro in the final 50m with Ulrey also closing fast to just miss a spot.

Kyle Miller will run well but be around 5-7th. Manzano will retire after the race!

Manzano is 26 years old, which is usually the age at which a miler is at the peak of their physiological capabilities. If he retires the year before a summer olympics, ill do a cannonball off the empire state building

Why is US mile running bad again.

I am almost positive that Miles Batty will NOT be running at USAs after talking to him after the NCAA 1500 final. He said that he has too many races this year and is ready to call it quits on the season.

Might have changed since then, but as of 2 weeks ago he wasn't planning on running.

I think the team is clear:

Wheating

Brown

Torrence

Everyone else races for 4th and on. Only potential would be if Lomong puts in a huge race and beats out torrence or brown.

If wheating can get himself in the shape he was in lastyear, he's number 1 in my books.

Next on my list is Centro. I really feel Centro has had a lot of slow races, hasnt reached his potiental, and is ready to turn something on. NCAA he was on a differnt level, he ran that race like it was his. Point and case, some people are specifically bringing up centro to say he isnt gonna make it. Haters gonna hate. but i'll go as far to say Centro takes it all. Or loses to Wheating. He's ready to roll, dangerous, and knows how to win.

I like him, but not sold on Russel Brown. Ran fast at Pre, but i feel his fast times have come from races he hasnt been a factor in. But on the right day, he can get the job done.

David Torrence 4th. He's strong. Lets see if he can turn something on at USA's

Lopez Lomong. Liked him in 09 and 10

I think Ben Blankenship is gonna make a move somewhere, but eithor too little to late, or get swalled up. He'll run fast and show potiental, but not make it

Ulrey hasnt been able to make things click since he made the team in 09.

Jager needs to be healther before i say more.

Dark horse Leo Manzano. Maybe if he starts having fun, he'll do well.
