in all seriousness, did this have anything to do with verzbicas breaking 4?

Did anyone notice he broke 4, 45 years to the day before Lukas?

You must really be stupid...
Danielson met his wife online. She was living in China. He flew to China to meet her and her teenage son. They married in 2006 and divorced in 2008. She recently moved back in with him because she was not able to support herself. The rest is conjecture.
Jesse,
Why is his question stupid? The anniversary of the accomplishment could very easily have been the trigger to his act.
You should make an attempt at being a better person.
I think the coincidence are exaggerated. However, if you were a very private would you want the media/paparazzi on your tail?
media questioning TD: "oh how does it feel to still be number 3 in the list."
With the given of p r i v a c y being breeched...such a private person wouldn't want to be bothered. Everybody has eccentricities be latent or 'triggered'. There's a good book about the concept 'why people snap.' Don't have the name or author.
Which one you would have helped him avoid this?
Is it really a suicide attempt if he sends an email saying where he is and how he is slowly trying to kill himself?
Sounds like a cry for help more than a suicide attempt.
Cmon, he didn't do anything that wrong.

↲Yes it does. I raced with Barry and George Sheehan at Waynesboro, VA in '79 or '80 I think it was. I wish one of us had helped Barry and Tim.
Obviously one cannot know what triggered this. A murder/suicide could have a host of precipitating events. However, clinical depression is real and is treatable, but untreated can result in threats to self, threats to others.
The notion that clinical depression or bipolar disorder are not disease states is hopelessly naive; stigmatization around them results in people not getting treated, and of course events like this.
The data shows there is a strong correlation too with aging and mental health disorders, including bipolar disorder and severe depression with resulting suicide.

Chris - I am a reporter with the Union-Tribune and I am working on a story about what happened. Do you have a moment to call me? My number is 619 293-1010.
Thank you - Debbi Baker
Phenomenal runner, tragic story.
My guess is they'll find out that Danielson was going off or on an SSRI.

Waynesboro, VA? What race was that? I live near there and am very curious.

Great book, especially the essay "The Death of Meriwether Lewis"
Waynesboro Marathon and 10K. Bill Rodgers also won that 26.2 around that time.↲

No kidding! That's awesome. They have a half here these days, but no 26.2 in recent years. I'll be heading to the library to check out the newspaper archives, see if they have pictures of Bill/the others running through my hometown.
What is rarely included in studies like this - is that people on SSRIs or any other meed for depression - is that there are reasons they were started - typically for depression and often times concomitant with suicidal thoughts or attempts, or even homicidal thoughts. These are present before the initiation of meds. It is difficult to pinpoint which influenced suicides or homicides which the prior condition is as much, perhaps more of a factor than .... not a simple x + y = z. Sayin - hey - "have a positive attitude and life will be great." ... is extraordinarily naive. Merely giving a pill and expecting there be a monumental change is almost as equally naive. Okay - nuff from me
Your remark: Sayin - hey - "have a positive attitude and life will be great." ... is extraordinarily naive.
We all have to educate ourselves on this. A good friend of mine went on an anti-depressant earlier in the year due to a very public court case where he had to be a witness for the prosecution and it was against a childhood friend..... he wound up shooting himself in the head.... He was the most unlikely person to commit ANY type of violence.
Terribly sorry for all involved in Tim Danielson's life.

I was going to say that depression is a biochemical disease, and that suicide is a result. But, everything is biochemical: my thoughts are chemical movements leading to electrical charges that are resulting in my typing of this reply. . .
I don't know what my point was, but I do know that it's more complicated than saying "he was the most unlikely person to commit ANY type of violence." And, it's more simple than "it's a chemical imbalance;" everything is a chemical imbalance. You're in equilibrium when you're dead, when there's no action potentials.
