Well spoken on all counts.
Well spoken on all counts.

Yea and that guy Haile Geb. is one big wuss as well because he's made similar decisions or excuses. Good call.
You know many of you folks are nuts needing some serious therapy, right?!? Egads!
Sure, Solinsky and Rupp want to beat each other. What a huge surprise. I feel dizzy suddenly discovering that. Oh, and they want to beat others as well, as many as they can when allergies and hamstrings don't hamstring longer range goals.
And that they have risen to such wonderful levels is a surprise we should all be thrilled about. Salazar essentially arranged for Henry Rono to come to Eugene to run an amazing 10K, and he lost. But that was before the time of most of you who think you can advise or read the minds of world class athletes. You don't remember Salazar in his prime. I do since the state and New England 2 mile champ that year, from my school, pointed out a lean thin and short (he grew nearly a foot in a year) Alberto who as a frosh ran something close to 9:40. A great athlete who learned a lot from his own mistakes and is clearly a great coach.
A good coach has to hold his top runners back more than push them; they are not top runners for lack of motivation. Alberto made the call on Galen, don't you get it, with greater goals in mind (he did not pull Farah, and look what happened). Oh, and if you actually look at the pollen for Eugene, not the link to Austin someone mistakenly gave, it spiked Friday and Saturday to its 2nd highest and then highest counts. And that was the general pollen count, not the one Salazar got done specifically for the allergens that impede Rupp. Many brave runners came to Pre, some won, some lost well, and some could not run for a variety of reasons. Galen's record proves his bravery, and Chris' his. Let it go and get on with life, go improve your own running (and sensiblities) and expect some great things from them instead of expectorating about them or your low end pussy theories. It is both great and a shame that LetsRun, one of the best things that has happened to running news in eons, gives you a forum. At least use it with some maturity and wisdom.
Chris and Galen are world class, the two best ever in US history. I am thrilled. What is the matter with so many of you? Brave on the internet, but none of you have run close to what either of them has, otherwise they would not be the two top 10k runners in US history, both with stellar running resumes.
Okay, get back to your self-proclaimed wisdom and spewing. I know you will. Me, I will get off the boards, despite the great stuff mixed in here, to read real reflections and interviews of great starts in their best and worst moments. You may have your freedom of expression back, but how some of you can respect yourselves, I have no idea.
I think they're both cowards and idiots for passing up a great oppurtunity to run fast and to prove themselves on a world level.
He ran 3:58 at the Pepsi meet, and yes they were burning crops. He did cough up blood and the race affected his running for a while afterwards.
Salazar says Rupp warmed up with Mo (while wearing a mask). Probably did it to help out his teammate.

Solinsky the Whiner wrote:Solinsky is the one obessed with Rupp, not the reverse. Salazar and Rupp noticed it, and used it against hi. Great move, right out of the Art of War, might have destroyed their rival mentally for the year if not forever.
Because Solinsky isn't afraid to woop some ass. Rupp's alergies? Yeah right, it was rainy all day and the pollen count was practically zero. It was a perfect day and Rupp didn't run because if he did, it would have meant his AR would have been taken away by, you guessed it, Solinsky. No way he would have dropped out if Rupp was in that race, bad hammy or not.
It was not rainy all day, it had finally gotten warm and dry - it only took a day or so for the grass to bloom when I was teaching at Oregon State and I am sure that it has not changed since then.

You think that Solinsky, manning up to defend his 10k American Record in a race that stood a good chance of allowing him to better it, is "weak sauce"? Solinsky defending his record is a true man's move, and should be respected as such.
It was a German Fernandez move to quit in the middle of the race and make up a fake injury after talking trash right up the day before. I'd say it was beginning of the end for Solinsky, but that obviously began when he couldn't even pace for 10k for Teg. That 26:59 was the almost certainly the best he'll ever run for the 10k, since without Rupp to leech off, he's worthless in a 10k, which I think is proven by how his panic attack when Rupp didn't line and his comments after about it being a "ploy." Solinsky isn't a national champion like Rupp, he's only qualified for WC/Olympic teams once versus Rupp's four despite being over a year older and having an extra chance. Rupp 2x national champion and 4 time WC/Olympic team member being as high as 5th, Solinsky... lucky to have made 1 team, but he's a fast *runner* when nothing is on the line, but not a champion *racer* like Rupp though.
Sounds like you're taking this really personally. This is human nature. This is what we do to people who are in the spotlight. politicians, celebrities, athletes, etc. There is no right or wrong about it, its just human nature. You expect letsrun to be some site where people only talk about training and only post positive, motivational admiration of all athletes? go improve our own running? Frankly, its good that we have this. Its a sign people actually care about the sport. it comes with the territory.I also love the argument that because people haven't run as fast they have no right to comment on others. We've all known kids who are simply more talented, train way less, and destroy us no matter what we do. Are we all wrong to post an opinion about how they could be, or act, better? Luckily Both Rupp and Solinsky are world class trainers as well as trainers, but that doesn't mean people cannot in good conscience have expectations and ideas about how they can be better or improve the sport. Please get off of your horse. you too are posting here out of love for this sport and judging others, just like everyone else. Its clear that, unlike you, we're all the ones living in a dream world. Enjoy.
Rupp was seen this morning deboarding a plane in Europe and is scheduled to run a 10k later tonight! Solinsky you've just been served...
I would say that 99% of the people who post on this message board, and trash Galen Rupp have never spoken to him, or met him. Same for Alberto. I had the chance to be around him for an entire indoor season along with Alberto. I found both of them to be polite, well mannered, sincerely appreciative of the things we did for them, and class folks all the way. It was a very positive experience. Like all of us, I'm sure they have their bad days, but I enjoyed listening to their philosophies of just trying to be the best they can. If we restricted the commentary to just those that actually know Galen, or have been around him I'm sure there would be a much different perception of him (and Alberto).
I think the bad blood started between Rupp and Solinksky right after Chris had finished breaking the American 10k record, and Rupp would not even acknowledge his presence. Poor sportsmanship by Rupp started this rivalry, and it will continue as long as Rupp keeps putting Solinsky as target #1, instead of focusing on the East Africans like Solinsky has been doing since Palo Alto 2010. Both should realize that beating each other doesn't matter when they still aren't medaling at Worlds.
You can dislike Rupp, I got no problem with that, but allergies is not another reason to do so. He's got a running disability there and the Pre meet is always at the wrong time for this. Look at how Leo struggled in the 800 as he did in years past.
I ran Div III cross country and couldn't touch our team captain in most races, but if the course had a field that was just plowed or they cut a path in the field for the course, I could beat him. I remember passing his at 3 miles collapsed on the field gasping for breath, it was pretty scary. And he was as tough as they come, a true fighter.
So AlSal and Rupp were hoping to race and tested the waters right up to the start and decided to pull out. Sounds like a guy who really wanted to run but made the right decision. And Chris now thinks they went all through this just to rattle him? That's just wierd. It's clear he jumped into the race only to try and protect his AR (Jordon the race director said this) and then after said they palnned this for some time blah blah blah. Get over yourself, who cares?
The bad blood between Solinsky and Rupp may be insignificant and inconsequential. The rift between Salazar and Schumacher is not. Their differences are real and deep-seated.
I agree. Rupp being an Oregon boy, being coached by an Oregon boy, there is no doubt he is getting paid over market. Even with a new contract Solinky won't make the money or have access to things Rupp does.
This is the most ridiculous running thread I have ever read on this board. Which is saying a lot.
so this banner at Flotrack wasn't what many of us tuned in for?
in the banner, Solinksy's arms are up in victory and rupp is clearly chasing. rupp doesn't line up, why should Solinsky keep running. he's already the AR holder and only non-African to rub sub 27. aAnd, he's still not interested in running 10,000m!
why would he be? he was a two-time 5000m NCAA champion and currently has the 2nd fastest 5k time of US runners "in the mix". like Webb's hot 5k and 10k times, kid still holds that he is a miler.
CSOL not only broke the AR his first time at 10,000m but he also became (and holds) the first non-African to run below 27min. that is a big deal...the biggest actually. it puts him above every other non-African runner to have ever laced 'em up.
so yeah to defend your title, your belt...that's what a gamer does. that's why flotrack and letsrun posted polls and banners and hyped up the live 10,000 coverage.
i almost forgot.
http://www.letsrun.com/photos/2011/nychalf/imagepages/image6.php
rupp is still mad Berto wouldn't let him wear black knee-highs to complete the look. "but Solinsky has them..."
so banners and polls...article waiting to be written...all these things waited in the wings. Solinsky was on the line and sprung at the gun. he was there. nancy-boy was sitting under the stands holding a doctor's note...and wearing a creepy looking mask.
First Solinsky decides to run only because Rupp is running and then drops out after Rupp doesn't start? Then he mentions this fact in an interview? I'm sorry but Solinsky is far from being smart. In fact, he's kind of dumb. Of course his crowning moment was considering the possibilty that this might all be a ploy against him. I could imagine the other elites in the field will get word of his antics and be like "looks like we have a new nutjob among us. Hope he's as entertaining as Webb."
Of course, the real buffoonery is how Letsrun fans try to turn this around against Rupp. Look, I'm well aware of this obsession with Solinsky because he has muscles and Rupp looks like, well, he looks like the people who hate him. But lets be clear, Chris being a bitch here. Run to compete against the best, not to defend a record against a fellow American, you pvssy. And if you drop out for whatever reason, do yourself a favor a keep it to yourself. You are embarrassing all Americans.

No, but dropping out because someone else doesn't start and then saying people are plotting against him sure is.
