Week 262
*************************
Greetings, 50+ers! Thanks for the props on the race from last week, definitely starting to feel more hopeful. And on that note, I'm happy to report 7 days of running with 42+ miles recorded and feeling no worse for wear! The logbook reads as such:
Sun: 6.0 easy w/form drills
Mon: 5.0 easy (8:00/mi pace)
Tues: 6.0 w/8x(400, 200 rec)
Wed: 7.0 easy trail/grass (8:46 pace)
Thur: 5.0 w/some effort (7:07 avg pace)
Fri: 4.3 easy 2/3rd's on trails (8:33 pace)
Sat: 9.3 steady (7:42 pace)
Except for Saturday, all runs were done in the afternoon, and heat/humidity became quite a factor in the latter half of the week. Got off road a couple of days; would like to do more of that to reduce pounding on the legs. Tuesday should have been a good day to get in the planned 12x400, the weather was acceptable, but I started to feel light-headed during the 8th rep (that's been my cue to stop.) Probably running them too fast---they were all run in the 93-94s range, with jog recoveries right around 60-63s; Daniels would tell me to run them in ~97s. Thursday's avg. pace doesn't include the fact that I stopped for a minute after miles 2 and 4...overheating; mile 2 was run around 6:30 pace. I jumped in the public pool right after for instant relief! Saturday's warmish run took a bit more effort than expected; glad to share the suffering with a small group. Spent most the rest of Saturday inside trying to recover from overheating.
After taking the last two days of May off, I've now run every day in June thus far! Summer teaching started Thursday, but I will have afternoons to run; heat-acclimatization can't happen too fast!
So sorry to read about your husband's plight, SCgal---that really sucks. I hope that your husband can find a rewarding alternative; coaching club or adults, perhaps? In know, it's not the same.
@AlanB-I guess I'm just a little concerned about the disparity between the long run vs. the other runs. My loosely followed rule of thumb has been to try not to make the long run more than double the next longest run of the week. I don't know if there's any sound science behind it, so if you're not getting hurt...... Thoughts?
@kaku-nice treadmill tempos! Do you do those on a flat bed or do you add a bit of incline?
@Reno-major props on those races. You seem to be getting it back quickly! That's a lot of GO training! Can you comment a little more about using the ElliptiGO? Any issues to be concerned about?
A lot of other great discussion and efforts posted last week. Keep it up! And Welcome, C0l0rado, good luck on getting back to Boston for your 50th!
OK, that's all I've got for this week. Any races to report?
All the Best!
