Just so we're clear, it is impossible to lose fat and gain muscle mass concurrently. Muscle protein synthesis is an energy-consuming process. If you are in caloric deficit, you do not have the energy needed to synthesize new protein. You need to be in caloric surplus to gain weight, be it fat or muscle protein. Proper nutrient timing and proper strength training stimulus will determine how severe the muscle loss is during caloric deficit or how severe the fat gain is during caloric surplus.
Wrong! Caloric surplus/deficit has nothing to do with protein synthesis. Biggest BS I've written in days. Let me guess; you're one of those self-schooled fitness types?
That's why 'we athletes' always see 17 year olds in the gym with a gut as big as my 60 year old dad thanks to the high-calorie protein drinks...because they think they need carbs + protein to put on muscle. Dream on my friend; most sprinters are on a high protein diet with very limited % of carbs on top of that.
For myself when I was an active 'sprinter'(10.3-4 range, so very far from elite level); only 2-3 table spoons of rice/pasta with a hell of a lot of chicken/fish/beef and veggies to go with that at dinner, a lunch with chicken and salad and a small roll, breakfast consisting of yoghurt, a lot of fruit and a small hand of cerial. To give you an indication of what body type I had; 1.88m, 88-89kg, 5% fat in season (doctor wanted to get that higher because in the long term he was afraid of organ-damage), about 7-8% off season. I could lift more weights then all those BB types in my gym, especially in bench, squats, and highpulls, but my coach got me down in max weights since I kept putting muscle on (whit that low carbs diet!). Nickname at that time was 'The White Linford Christie'. And I did that without drugs, supplemments (exept a multi vitamin)or any chemically developed protein additives.
Now please tell me that a man like Bolt, who problably has twice the athletic ability I had, isn't able to put on muscle while losing fat....! Please get out of that gym of yours...stop listening to all those ironheads in there and studie real sports! You might actually get some usefull info from it!
