Do student athletes have the time or energy for a social life in college? Don't get me wrong I love running but to miss out on any sort of a college experience...that would suck

just save your hard partying for Saturday night
exactly what kind of "college experience" are you looking for? Most of it is stuff that you can do after and before college also.
Back in the 70's runners were known for their crazy lifestyles. Yes, even the elite.
When you're in your 20's there should be no problem with a getting a few hours sleep after a wild night out and training the next day like normal.
I usually go to parties and tell everyone my PR's. Instant party hit right here!
Just be smart about when you go out. Just do it in moderation and when your training/racing schedule allows. I don't recommend going out a week before an important race or workout. You don't have to lock yourself in your room to become a good runner, just don't let it affect your training. Everything must be scheduled around that.
Running and training will ultimately tell you at the end who your real friends are. It's like this. Would you rather hang out with these people or would you rather be training? if you are leaning towards the latter, you are saving yourself a lot of wasted time. Besides you will still have plenty of people to hang out with. Enjoy! And please do all of your readings for class. I'm in grad school and have to TA so be your teacher's pet by doing your work.
Cocaine's a hell of a drug.
HELL YEAH! Sure you shouldn't party Thurs and Fri like the Frat boys, but the Saturday after a meet, you bet. Just don't hang out with the geeky distance runners. Befriend the sprinters on your team and you'll do just fine.
the sprinters at my school drink a little bit more often than the distance runners.
but we are way crazier, the sprinters are usually reserved.
but at our xc parties, more shit tends to get broken

That sounds about right. Do you really think you're going to attract women by "breaking shit?" This is exactly why us sprinters tended to avoid distance runner parties.
Miss what? Why, are you showing at least national level excellence? If not --why bother denying and deluding yourself?
there are just parts of the distance running culuter that sprinters will never understand.
like why we are not constantly hooked up to iPODS like they are, or blasting music through our phones
