I've gone over this before on this site, but I'm glad to repeat it here.
In the late 70's early 80's I suffered from retro-calcaneous bursitis, achills tendinitis and other maladies. I was in australia at the time and had heard about DMSO. I got some from a health food store. t
That bottle warned that it was a cleaning agent. I have also used other types that were for vet. use. I crushed pure aspirin and mixed it with the DMSO into a paste. I was sure that the bowl I mixed it with was very clean. i also sterilized a spoon to crush it with. I applied it to the area and covered it with gauze. i then wrapped the area in saran wrap. On top of that i placed a clean, white ace bandage. The taste was very noticable in my mouth before I was done putting on the wrap. People told me that I smelled like garlic for days after the treatments. i would use it for 3-4 days, 2-3 x per day.
At this time, I was also getting blood work done on a regular basis by a friend who worked in a lab. She noticed my liver enzymes climbing dramatically and asked if I had started intravenous drug use. I'm not talking elevated, I'm talking off the charts. They have remained very high since that time, so much so that I have trouble with medicine for my cholesterol.
I also noticed at this time, that my eyesight which had always been 20-20 began to deteriorate. I became near-sited and got a prescription for glasses. I went from needing them for driving to needing them full-time in the space of 1.5 years. My eyeglass prescription was changed 4 times in 3 years. It has only been changed once since.(25 years)
Just an experiment of one, but it made me highly suspicious. In addition, the FDA pulled studies on DMSO after "rabbits, dogs and swine" showed lens failure. I remember my mom calling me a pig in slovak many times, but it shouldn't have caused an effect on my eyes. Maybe all the episodes of I Dream of Genie did that!
The skin in the area will get very dry after only 1 or 2 applications.
Tell you what...the stuff worked! I once badly turned my ankle during an easy run while peaking for Revco marathon. 6 days until the race and it was swollen and dark blue. could not walk on it! DMSO treatments on Monday, Tuesday light jog on wed, with treatments, and by friday I couldn't feel any trouble in the ankle. discoloration was gone race day am.
I'd still be careful. maybe get some blood work before using it and do your own experiment.
