Do you mean BREATHE? They were somehow able to in Atlanta and LA, so why wouldn't they in NYC?
Last weekend there was enough clean air for a 2:08 marathon in the city.
nyc is a city that has proven that it can not handle the security needed. since sept 11 the only change in airport security is that the terrorist may have wait in longer lines before they are let onto the plane. for those of us who live in ny, i hope that the olympics are no where near here.
It's enough of a chore getting around the day of a Yankees v Red Sox game... I feel for ya. Thankfully DC got wiped out early.
However if NYC gets it, I'll likely volunteer. Wasn't able to volunteer during Atlanta. I'm not sweating it, Rome will win regardless.

How do you figure that?
Certainly one would have to get past 12 million people who do not support track in order to see an event.
The national indoor meet was a joke. The second day was supposedly sold out, but you could sit anywhere you wanted in the pathetic stands.
Just imagin what they could run in nontoxic air. Damn sub 2 maybe.
Actually, the bid is brilliantly organized and put-together. The transportation issues are not as bad as they initially seem. Also, NYC air quality is MUCH better than Athens, Mexico City, Rome....all places the games have visited before.
And there is no city in the world better prepared to handle terrorism situations. Whoever said that NYC wasn't equipped to handle terrorism was exactly wrong. The chances of a disaster happening at an games in NYC are the same as for a games in San Fran. or Toronto. But NYC is much better prepared to respond in the event something does happen.
I don't think they'll get the games until 2016, but it'll be worth the wait.

London is preparing to bid for the 2012 Games, but the view of here in the press is that it will go to New York.
While I love NYC and I am still very much an American, I think that having 3 summer Olympics within a 28-year-span in one country is not a good idea.
The Olympics have never been in South America or Africa. Give it to Cape Town or Buenos Aires.
Jason
Does Capetown want it? Does Buenos Aires? Is there reason for the IOC to have enough confidence in their respective economies and fiscal plans to give serious consideration to awarding it to either?
The Olympics are big business and the Games are no longer awarded for good feelings and diversity. With the headaches caused by Athen's inadequate pace of progress, look for the IOC to award games only to cities / countries with solid financing and organizational know-how.
Capetown has staged a bid in the past...I think they very nearly got the 2008 Games. Buenos Aires is not in the running and Argentina's finances are disastrous right now. But I've heard that Rio de Janeiro, Brazil might be interested.
Clusterf*ck.
its funny, the kid says how the only change in airport security in NY is that they have to wait longer in lines. Well the terrorist didnt get on the planes in NY they got on them in Boston, which still has much worse security (trust me i fly out of there all the time) Also he mentions the air quality. Would you rather have it in Houston which is much much worse? didnt think so
Any/all can read about transport, etc etc., at the site www.nyc2012.com
