Does anyone know anything about the course? Grass? hilly? From the web site, seems hard to tell.

Only the start is grass, the rest is a compacted dirt path. It's flat except for one hill on each loop.
the informant -
how can a member of a USATF registered club team be a member of that team if they live in another region? (example: competing for a Kansas club team, but living in North Carolina?)

Rule 4
2. In Long Distance Running, open and masters cross country running and open track & field club competition, an athlete who is a non-resident member of an Association is eligible to compete for a team in that Association only if ((the athlete)):
(a) the athlete resides in an adjoining Association ((and the Association of residence does not offer the program,)) within the government-defined Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area (SMSA) of a city which is primarily in the neighboring Association, or
(b) neither the Association of residence nor any Association adjoining the Association of residence ((offers the program)) has a member organization which sponsors and/or supports team competition available to the athlete, or
(c) ((has historical membership based upon Association residency (at least 3 continuous USATF membership years) in a club is eligible to compete for that club)) the athlete has been a member of both the club and the club's Association for at least three continuous years.
Who is on Running Republic of Boulder?
I run for RRB (running republic of boulder), so yeah, I am a little bias. But here is the jest. The club team is over 8 years old. Coached by Darren De Reuck. Colleen has been a member for years. Nan joined the group about a year ago when she moved to Colorado. The rest of the club (about 30 people) consists of mostly runners in their 30-40-50s who train together twice a week formally and usually Fridays and Sundays informally in smaller groups. You can see the website
.
The others on the team (Renee Metivier Baillie, Sara Slattery, Sara Vaughn) did just join via USATF a few weeks ago. But Renee has begun to actually train some with us and Colleen and Nan. So it is not a completely fake team that just joined for this race. Also to note on USATF rules, that when you join a club, if you leave, you cant join a new club for 1 year. So its not like they will just switch to a new club next month. Oh as far as location. All of them live in Boulder except Vaughn who lives 40mins away in Black Hawk.
I don't understand why people are complaining about racing against Pro's, I mean I'm pumped to go out there and battle with all those good athletes. It only makes the field better, why would you want it to be weaker? Seems pretty dumb to me.

This is correct. You can switch clubs at any time, you are eligible to compete for your new club 90 days after you have last competed for your old club.
Also any athlete can now join any club within USATF... but to be eligible to score points for team championships, the residency rules apply.
my money is on JOE MOORE of the KC SMOKE! He's a darkhorse, but WATCH OUT! you heard it here first!!!
Stop it
The rules quoted above are the proposed future rule changes.
The current rules as they apply to this meet, this year are as follows (straight from the USATF website):
The formation of club teams must meet all of the parameters as noted in Regulations 4 and 6 in the USATF Governance Handbook, Section III and the USATF Rules of Competition, specifically Rule 4. This will be strictly enforced. Please note that in Long Distance Running, an athlete who is a non-resident member of an Association is eligible to compete for a team in that Association only if the athlete: (a) resides in an adjoining Association and the Association of residence does not offer the program, or (b) neither the Association of residence nor any Association adjoining the Association of residence offers the program. ( c) has historical membership based upon Association residency (at least 3 continuous USATF membership years) in a club and is eligible to compete for that club.
The most likely reasons for someone living in NC competing for a Kansas Club are either a historical residence waiver or someone lying about their address.
But also don't assume that you know where someone lives. People move all the time.

'THE INFORMANT' WROTE:
I'll be rooting for Stotan as well.
As for the Smoke...after losing Heffron and Pierce not much left there besides Haaker (1:06 1/2, 4:10 mile last year) if he goes to compete. Would love to see Moore rejoin them from N.C., but not betting it happens.
Best of luck to them, but not seeing a top 15 placing happening.
Assumptions are made without facts, according to "The Informant", they do currently have a runner in another state (NC), as stated above. Current entry information has him on their roster for Club XCs. Hopefully he fits the "registered with Kansas USATF for three years" requirement...
I don't do it, but I knew of quite a few people I used to race against in college who lied about their residence to run for teams in states not even close to where they actually lived...
I also know that they were actively recruited by some of the clubs. Kind of BS...
Henry Dennis lived in Ohio and claimed that he lived in Wisconsin for about 5 years. Every year he claimed he was in the process of moving to Wisconsin. It must have been a 5 year process. Although Karma has caught up with that situation.
So if you guys have evidence of current athletes lying about their addresses, email Andy Martin or Mike Scott and report it...
He's registered for '07, '08, '09, '10 in the same club. That should cover things.
How's the weather in Boulder?
Please make sure to check the rosters and actual dates of registration.
Nike used to play this trick stealing from regional teams to build a super team to win the title.
Al Sal got busted a couple of times with team rosters not exactly kosher.
Make sure LDR head is not kissing someones ass and lets them through on a technicality.
Dig Deep wrote:

The rosters do get checked between the close of registration and the start of the meet.
I learned a lot about this process because we sent quite a few masters runners to the masters 5K champs in Vancouver a few months ago. A few days before the meet we got notice that two of our runners were flagged. We had to submit evidence that they did meet the rules.
I was pretty annoyed that it wasn't brought up until the last minute, but with registration closing so close to the meet, it's hard for them to do otherwise.
So it's possible that an athlete that appears on a roster right now could be declared ineligible to score for their team between now and the meet.
Remember that USATF now basically allows any athlete to transfer to any club in any association. HOWEVER, the requirements to score for a team in a team championship are stricter (and vary between track, XC, masters/open/youth, etc). So a team could register an athlete who is a valid member of their club, but not eligible to score, and not even realize it until they get notice.
"it's not a completely fake team."
Strong defense!
