who the heck READS playboy?
DougC,
I got my copy of No bugles on Amazon.
One of my favorite books is "The Herb Elliott Story", aka "The Golden Mile".
I have most of the other books mentioned.
The worst running book ever (which, alas, I also still have), thought it would be interesting but it wasn't, is the one by Brian Hewson.
John,
Besides your excellent list of books, I found two books by Frank Murphy to be quite good:
The Athletic Biography of Buddy Edelen
The Silence of Great Distance

Curiously, the publisher was Playboy Press -- a far cry from Rodale!
They need to buy out runners world.
Best training book ever ? It`s not written yet. But I plan to publish it in a couple of years.... :)
I was a Lydiard (Run to the Top) devote, supplemented with How They Train (mostly Shorter, Kenny Moore) in the '80s. I've always wanted to blend the 80s training and racing for the 'thon/OT and fiction. New book coming out Oct 1. Check it out.
Ron Daws (Self Made Olympian) FTW.
Best book for improving your running, ever.
