I'm a little less than a month out from my first marathon and a little unsure of what to expect for myself. I'd really like to be in the 2:30-5 range but am unsure what I have done/should do to show myself that I am ready for that kind of pace.
Abbreviated past 6 months training background:
-Felt horrible all summer but averaged about 65-70mpw on 7 days/wk training and doing striders twice per week
-Since mid-August haven't done any striders
-Mid-August realized how much I was hating running over the summer and cut back to running only 6 days per week; mileage has stayed between 55-65 mpw since
-Beginning of September began doing 1-2 "tempo" runs per week of 8-10 miles somewhere between 5:40-6:00 pace
-Did my first 20 mile run two weeks ago and averaged to about 6:30 pace-- first 10 was around 6:45-7:05 pace, second 10 was mostly around 6:15-20 with 6:00 as fastest mile I think
-Raced 8k last weekend in 26:40-- first time running anything other than a strider faster than 5:30 mile pace since April, also did two sets of striders the week before
So yeah, basically been bullshitting my training the past few months because I've felt like hell all summer but now things are finally starting to click. Hadn't done any workouts/fartleks/etc all summer or leading up to the race; just some tempo-paced runs for a month and ran the 8k last weekend. Does any of this sound indicative of being in some sort of shape/contention of being in the 2:30-35 area if I get serious the last month?
I did my first fartlek run the other day just to blow some rust out of my system and get ready to knock out some workout-esque runs before this race. Anything anyone can recommend to do to show I may be able to pull off a time in this range?
Thanks.
