FRESNO -- The super sophomore shined again.
McKinleyville's Morgin Coonfield went stride-for-stride with the state's best and finished third out of 207 runners in the Division 4 portion of the CIF State Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon. She crossed the finish at 18 minutes and five seconds.
”Morgin entered the race ranked third,” said Panthers head coach Jason Lewis in an email. “Anna Maxwell, the state champ, was never going to be caught unless she just had a very bad day. I thought Morgin could have potentially jumped up a spot.”
Coonfield wasn't the only Humboldt-Del Norte athlete in competition in Fresno.
Arcata's Chloe Pigg finished 22nd at 19:09 and Fortuna's Michaela Barros placed 26th at 19:20.
