With the discussion on how UM will transition from Warhurst to Gibby, I thought I'd look online to see if anything was available on how he trained his runners. I couldn't find anything, so I thought I'd ask on this board. How does he train his runners?
I wonder which Big 10 coach this is, trying to stir the pot early. Let me break it down for you in basic terms so you will understand what you are up against now that a coach of Gibby's caliber is in the Big 10. He will demand a lot of his runners. They will train harder than they ever have before and will do a lot of things that they never thought possible. How else do you take a team of nobodies and turn them into a 5th place team at the NCAA's? They will train harder than your team.
He understands the organization/flow and application of training very well, especially during cross country. They almost always run their best when it matters. He is very technical and hands on with the training.
His methods won't work for some of the guys currently on that team, and it will only be because they are afraid to commit to what it truly takes to be great at this level. And if they decide to give up the binge drinking. Time will tell, but if I were a betting man I would put my chips on Gibby getting it done in Ann Arbor.
