Used to be a fan of the NAIA, but the new qualifying system is a complete and utter joke, an embarrassment to any school affiliated with it. Can't wait until the whole association is dismantled.
I used to run for a college in the KCAC (which is much stronger now than two years ago when I was running) and I'll be the first to admit that the new qualifying system unfairly favors runners in the weakest conferences. The NAIA is going to be a lot easier after the schools moving to the NCAA are gone. It might be possible for a 26:30 8k runner to be an all-american.

Even with the Malones, SFUs, Azusa's leaving, there is no way a 26:30 guy will be an all american. There are whole teams right now that aren't leaving that have 10+ guys on their own team that go faster than that.
yes, the overall team competition is likely going to change a lot as to who will and won't have a chance to win at nationals, but I don't think you will see a Huge (depending on your definition) dilution in the top 30 places (AA).
I hate the new rating system in the NAIA. Too much focus on team times and too much credit and trust is given to the raters. The system would work if the raters actually did their homework. For instance, teams are getting rated highly for fast team times on courses like Willamette, which any runner knows is atleast 30 seconds fast. Also, some teams just get screwed because their conference runs slower courses. In other instances the raters are just a joke because they base all of their votes on the previous weeks meets and not on the overall quality of a team's season. If a team holds back their top five, has some illness on the team, etc... the raters don't know enough to take factors like this into consideration.
Goodbye NAIA.
I think Concordia Neb. will win. Just a hunch.
