Looking at your own stats Merga finished between 1st and 3rd NINE out of 13 times. So the MAJORITY of the time he wasn't a 3rd-6th finisher, but a 1st-3rd finisher. See for yourself:
13:05.20 3 Doha 14 May 2010
12:53.81 1 Oslo 4 Jun 2010
13:00.12 1 Roma 10 Jun 2010
13:00.18 3 Eugene OR 3 Jul 2010
13:00.48 3 Gateshead 10 Jul 2010
12:55.66 2 Bruxelles 4 Sep 2009
13:29.75 1 WAF Thessalonki 13 Sep 2009
13:24.29 1 Takac Beograd 29 May 2008
13:19.63 3 Milano 25 Jun 2009
So saying he is a consistent "3rd-6th place finisher" is really a gross misreading of your own stats.
.
If it is a misreading of stats then why did you chose to delete some of the stats to make a point? I can play your childish game to.
This:
13:05.20 3 Doha 14 May 2010
12:53.81 1 Oslo 4 Jun 2010
13:00.12 1 Roma 10 Jun 2010
13:00.18 3 Eugene OR 3 Jul 2010
13:00.48 3 Gateshead 10 Jul 2010
13:41.98 5 African champs 2010
13:04.68 4 New York NY 30 May 2009
12:59.75 6 Roma 10 Jul 2009
12:55.66 2 Bruxelles 4 Sep 2009
13:29.75 1 WAF Thessalonki 13 Sep 2009
13:24.29 1 Takac Beograd 29 May 2008
13:08.20 5 Ostrava 12 Jun 2008
13:19.63 3 Milano 25 Jun 2009
13:49.17 16 GGala Roma 11 Jul 2008
Now becomes this:
13:05.20 3 Doha 14 May 2010
13:00.18 3 Eugene OR 3 Jul 2010
13:00.48 3 Gateshead 10 Jul 2010
13:41.98 5 African champs 2010
13:04.68 4 New York NY 30 May 2009
12:59.75 6 Roma 10 Jul 2009
13:08.20 5 Ostrava 12 Jun 2008
13:19.63 3 Milano 25 Jun 2009
13:49.17 16 GGala Roma 11 Jul 2008
Nine of his 14 races at 5000 are in the 3rd-16th range. Which nearly matches my off-the-cuff comment “Merga is a consistent 3rd - 5th place finisher and he's "the master"?
Merga’s record in championship races? Consistently 3rd – 7th (what else?)
2009 World Champs 10000 27:15.94 4th.
2010 African Championships 5000 13:41.98 5th
Even as a Junior the theme remains the same:
2007 African Junior Champs 10000 3rd 30:12.03
2007 World Junior XC champs 7th
My point remains the same. Merga is an outstanding runner capable of stealing a win when the opportunity is right, but, as I stated on my first post, he is not “the master”. Far from it. He has only four career wins at 5k, one of them in Serbia in 2008, and the other, the 2009 World Athletics Final, which has always been an afterthought on the tour.
The facts are there in black and white. Two wins does not make a “master”.
