Not trying to beat a dead horse, just still confused a little Malmo. Doubles are still more beneficial in the base phase correct? Is this even if a workout will not be taking place for a few weeks? And than instead of 10, i'm better off doing 8-4 or 7-4, so more mileage, but less stress and I now have the ability to hypothetically go faster on the runs is this correct?
What about when training for halves and marathons, is there a purpose for a medium long run to your week? Or just similar length days in training, such as every day at 15 with 6 of those days being doubles and one long run of 15?
YEs, doubles are more beneficial during base, why would it matter?
How can you be doing base training without doing workouts? I don't get this.
Saying that doubles are better than singles doesn't mean not to do any singles. You want variation in your training distances. Also, sometimes you just need rest, that's what singles are for. You are not doing doubles to add mileage or to decrease stress (even though those may be ancillary benefits), you are running twice a day to have two areobic stimuli in a day.
I don't follow your line of thinking that you should be able to run faster with doubles (except in the context that you'd be in better condition). Aerobic training speeds are the same, whether it be a 5 mile run or a 10 mile run. If an easy 10 mile run feels more difficult than an easy 5 mile run then you're just not in very good shape.
