I think you are wrong in saying that it affected the standing of the competitors. We don't know this to be a fact because:
1. If it was mis-read from the tape (likely, but not 100% certain), was the false reading enough to cause a change in the order? In other words, we don't know what the correct distance was, if it was in fact read wrong.
2. Several of Finley's other throws were approximately on meter short of the distance recorded for this contested mark. This makes it likely that the correct distance was exactly one meter less than re-recorded, because that would be consistent with the other throws. If that was the case,Finley still had the second best marks of the day and the order would not change.
So, what we likely have here is much ado about nothing...but moron LR folks love to make much ado about nothing.
