This is going to be huge... It cost Florida a national title... I'm amazed it hasn't come out yet...
Word from the meet is that it was and has been protested. Clearly a mismark. Florida would not have won, but tied.

Also...the chances of it being more than a clerical error recorded as 20.68 rather than 19.68 is small.
19.68 does not change the order of finish.
1 Ryan Whiting SR Arizona State 21.97m 72-01.00 10
19.31m 21.75m 21.78m 20.99m 21.12m 21.97m
2 Mason Finley FR Kansas 20.68m 67-10.25 8
18.02m 18.40m 19.29m 20.68m 19.30m FOUL
3 Blake Eaton JR Penn State 19.57m 64-02.50 6
18.06m 19.57m 19.28m 17.91m 19.02m 19.20m
4 Kemal Mesic JR Florida 19.42m 63-08.75 5
18.44m 18.31m FOUL 18.60m 19.42m FOUL
Even though the results say Kemal Mesic got 4th, he was awarded the 3rd place trophy at the meet. This is clearly a huge mistake that officials are too stubborn to change the actual results and give Florida the tie.
The protest was denied according to this article: http://www.registerguard.com/csp/cms/sites/web/sports/24903654-41/florida-aggies-jump-fourth-third.csp
If he threw 19.68 instead of 20.68 he still would have placed ahead of florida and the team results would not have been altered. Right?
What do you expect in Eugene-Good Officiating????? Naaaahhhh.
Kansas should have done the right thing here...they knew their kid didn't throw that far. almost a 5 foot PR...come on!
meet should have been a tie.
So they moved the steeple judge to the shot put this year where will he land next year/ reading the photos I hope
woah, this is a big blunder.
In terms of the team standings, the question is not whether or not the mark was mismeasured, but whether it was mismeasured by more than 1.26 meters. Unlikely.
The mucky muck NCAA official (let's not incorrectly call him an Oregon official, because he is not) who apparently mis-measured made a blunder, but the blunder did not affect the outcome. With the obvious proper mark, Finley still finished second and A&M still beats Florida by one point.
They should put the guys in charge of the Hayabusa mission in charge of measuring the shot. Those guys are kings.
The steeple judge was a USATF ITO official. He was not at Eugene this year. Of course the NCAA did bring in another winner to head the shot put crew. Why don't they just let the local officials do their job, and quit bringing in the overweight and semi-comatose big shots from around the country? Just sayin'.
Home conference region officials should be banned. Only USATF Regions from outside the home conference should be tapped for officials. That's how they do it in college football bowl games to prevent mobsters from controlling the outcome of games.
How do you mismark by a METER?
Just saying...
The men pole vault was a f cluster f....destroyed the event completely
The triple jumps went about 3h30min on each days....(for 24 people...) with cases of effed up measurement each days....and changing to a tape as a measuring device in mid competition
The shot put......took a team title away from Florida....
And one would expect better officiating at an NCAA final hosted by Oregon
That's why they call that pisshole, Methville. They get the security guards from the St. Vincent De Paul's Service Center and Eugene Mission because the Walmart Associates looking for a part-time 2nd job work won't work at UO wages nor accept worthless the Mexican Pesos that UO pays them in. The guards all have plastic shopping bags and pick up cans and bottles to supplement the cheap wages they get a month later from UO. Hayward meets are the only meets where you see volunteers and guards dig thru the trash for food to eat. Many guards and volunteers show up for work at Hayward early to use the shower in the locker room. Plus at the 2008 OTs I asked the Federal Dept of Homeland Security agent with the bomb sniffing dog where his wing man was and he said UO was too cheap to pay for his partner so he stayed home in L.A.
It was not mis-measured...the problem is it was called wrong and/or recorded wrong by the official.
And, it DID effect the standing of competitors in the event AND the team standings...are you blind
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
